Your best bet is to go to sprint and get it fixed, second you only have 30 days to add the Total Equipment Protection plan on you device from the day u bought the device

You can get it at any time (the TEP), but you can't make any claims for I believe 30 days after you sign up. In any case, you should have a warranty on it so just go to the Sprint store.

Thank you all for the advice, I am doing a back-up and reflashing a stock rom. and taking it in today. I'll let you know how it works out. assuming they can fix it / give me a new one, I assume my restore path is reflash to the custom rom I was using, and then just run the backup.exe ?

so before I started my phone replacement journey I did a full back up, removed my mini-sd card and then started to re flash to the stock rom. My dog bumped my phone during this and it locked the phone into bootloader mode. so I figured hell this is even better than trying to explain "loose usb port" now I just have "dead phone"
I get to a store and was told they didn't have a tech on staff and w/o the TEP I was SOL. I went to a second store in town and was told it would be 55+tax to replace the phone if they couldn't fix it., so I said ok (figuring a year of TEP was more I am still coming out ahead) The tech glanced at screed saying serial and said yup it's dead we'll replace it. (I had to snicker to myself a bit here) At this point I queried on the 1 year warranty and was told I would have to mail it to UT-starcom myself and wait a couple months for a replacement, that seems fishy but ohh well. Then I am told that there are no 6700s in stock, nor is there one in all of Austin. as Sprint really wants them to pust the Q and treo so I go ahead and pay the 60 bucks (I really do need a reliable usb port) and wait till get the phone on Monday. So now I am home, dogs in their crates (mastiffs; as dumb as they are big) and I am reflashing the stock rom then then my custom rom now so I can have a working phone over the weekend. |

Damn, that sucks.... I had to have my phone replaced by Verizon when the WiFi radio quit working in it. All they made me do was contact UT Starcom and talk with their tech support, after their tech support the phone was indeed faulty VZW sent me a replacement phone within 3 business days.

I work as a technician for SPRINT... we will *NOT* cover manufacturer warranty at the retail locations any longer... if you failed to add ESRP to your plan you will have to pay the 35$ fee for a recon, or add insurance and hope it lasts for a month+
you could always try your hand at soldering, ive done it to my phone, but if your not REAL good with a solder gun, just eat the 35$ and go get a replacement. once you pay the 35$ fee, you will then be eligable to add ESRP free of charge at like 3 or 4 bux a month.... TOTALLY worth it, and thats coming from someone who works here haha. your final option, if you want to wait the 5-6 week turnaround is to call UTSTAR and send the phone in for warranty repair... the phone number is 866-663-3266 you have to ship the phone to them, they have a 5-6 week turnaround and will mail the phone back to you repaired, free of charge... MAKE SURE YOU FLASH THE OFFICIAL SPRINT ROM on before you send in the phone or they will reject your device.
