also, from what I heard... jeff did very little work... it is based off a pre-release of the unified rom and he changed very little... I'm not saying thats bad,I prefer less... but others do much more integration and problem solving, sorry.

ok ok ok calm down its not just you its a lot of people and i can see why this could be a little frustrating for Mr Kirvin and you are right this is a forum for the sharing of info I think the issue at hand is until the kitchen releases the updates there is not much we can do except wait. we have found a workaround for MMS but its not that great but it works the issues you've raised are legit to say the least but we need more people working on solutions not just pointing out problems. Sorry I got under your skin that was not my intention at all I just dont want to discourage Mr Kirvin from continuing with this work

you are right it is based on the pre-release but let me tell you I tried it and felt like a monkey in a nuclear power plant lets at the very least give him that much credit he's done something that i could not do I guess if it were all that easy we would all have our own ROM's out there

I give him credit, as I could not have done it... however my post was intended to see if someone else could update Jeff's version. And seeing how he 'borrowed' a pre-release, I was hoping someone would borrow his work and possible find these issues. I'm not even sure if these bugs (especially being able to use USB networking) will be fixed with the release of the unified rom

To be honest, I would suggest not putting a lot of effort into the kitchen, or a "unified" ROM kitchen right now. I suspect UTStarcom will provide more info as to the official AKU 3 update for the PPC-6700 next week at CTIA. When they do, it will be over on PhoneNews.com... even if I have to pull Senior VP teeth to get it out of them (just kidding Katie).

Either way, stay tuned.

Even with the bugs (none of which I've experienced), i keep using this ROM; stable. good battery life, lot's of free space. Jeff, don't give up the ship-keep up your good work; thank you, I appreciate it.

The point releases are actually in the minds of Microsoft, the device maker, and the carrier, quite irrelevant. AKU 3.X is supposed to share the same feature set, with only minor bug fixes between them.

My point is, it all depends on when HTC started work on AKU 3 for Apache. If they started awhile back, I think we'll be getting 3.3. If they only started after all the ROM hacking broke out, then 3.5 is more likely. But, I agree with MS, it's not a huge deal. Unless there is some show-stopping bug, AKU 3.3 is supposed to perform just the same as 3.0 and 3.5.

I don't recall the link, but I was reading a thread on another board regarding the GPS chip in our phone that is capable of standalone GPS... however sprint requested it to be disabled and no one has figured out how to make it work other than getting some garbled information from a couple satalites..... anyways one of the posts was an email to UT starcom...... The rep said there was a GPS chip, they said how it is disabled was "proprietary (sorry i dunno how to spell it)" basically because sprint can't control it and therefor cannot charge for gps since it has standalone gps capability, which would function without having ANY kind of cellular service on the phone... another thing mentioned in the responding email was that there will NOT be future updates released by UT / Sprint for the 6700. The reason is the same reason they took the 6700 off the floors weeks ago... the next PPC is coming out = no more updates for 6700. Sucks... I know. So yes... we are stuck with relying on generous people that are able to do what we cannot to come up with ideas like the unified rom.
