Developer down

Well, i was working on 3.5 tonight with sfaure to get some kinks worked out before the fixes are compiled into an improved Base kitchen and the unthinkable happened. I loaded a rom and it got stuck at the bootscreen. Ok many of you are probably thinking something like "isn't that what happened the first time he tried 3.5?" or "yeah so, flash the sprint rom" or "did you try hard resetting it? That means you'll have to press y and then space" Well all of those are true and i've tried each. But this one is different. I flashed the stock sprint rom, hard reset and still got stuck at the splash screen. Removed battery etc. Still nothing. I can get in bootloader and reflash (which i've done with a known good and then the sprint rom) with no improvement. It does however show the different splash screens so it is writing something.

It looks like my phone might have bit the dust, and it's a very inconvenient time with all this excitement going on too. I might take it to sprint and see what they think, but what do they know? I didn't get insurance and you are all probably thinking i'm crazy for that too, but hey it's not like i dropped the thing.

I'm still gonna hope to get the thing working, but it isn't looking good at the moment. My backup phone would have to be an old samsung a500 if i will be waiting on it.

Wow sorry to hear that.. I had my phone a grand total of a week and my battery pooped out on me.. They replaced it even though i didn't have insurance at the time since it was under 30 days.. But said they wouldn't had it been over.. So i got insurance.. And after a month and a half, my joystick got stuck in the down position..and wouldn't move.. So i am on my second ppc right now. When i went to get my new one Monday they said they weren't getting any new 6700 in stock.. I guess its due to the 6800 or something...

Wow... that sucks. Nothing I can really suggest--you're smart enough to have tried everything I can think of... other than things that probably won't have any bearing like trying to boot with the AC plugged in, or making sure you've tried doing all of this in order: hard reset, put in bootloader, then flash all three Sprint ROMs (CE, Radio, extom). Try using both the original RUU and the Ma_upgrade_noid version. Try flashing only the CE ROM, or only the radio. Try someone else's custom ROM.

Heh, I guess it just depends on how many things you want to try--none of it stands a really good chance of saving you, but if you do all that and it still doesn't work you can reasonably bet that some component of your device got fried (maybe the RAM? RAM goes bad in PCs all the time, so there's no reason to think it couldn't on a PDA). It sounds like your flash mem is fine if the ROMs are going on OK (and you see the boot screen).

How long have you had this phone? If it's not been a year you always have the UTStarcom warranty as a last resort.

Edit: The battery is a possibility. The AC and battery are in series (i.e. phone will not work just on A/C--the battery must be in) so perhaps if the battery's shot maybe it's not passing enough current?). Again, a long shot. But if you have access to another battery it might be worth trying.

If you arent able to exchange it, would you be willing to dissect it and see how it compares to my disassembly pictorial I made for the xv6700?

ImCoKeMaN 02-24-2007 01:20 AM

Oh that's a year? Hooray!!!! I only had mine since the beginning of November. I guess i'll have to look into how their warranty stuff works and how long it takes etc.

Oh and you'd be surprised how many of those unlikely solutions i've already tried

luv2chill 02-24-2007 01:23 AM

On the contrary--not surprised at all. You know your stuff!

But I'm glad that you should at least be able to get your phone repaired under warranty. The only problem is that from what I remember reading they give you a pretty outrageous turnaround time (several weeks) and don't support cross-shipment or anything cool like that. But it beats having to buy a new one!

I'm pretty sure if you call *2 and speak to PDA tech support they will advise you on how to get an RMA from UTStarcom.

Good luck!

ImCoKeMaN 02-24-2007 01:31 AM

No offense but how the :cussing: am i supposed to call *2? heheh I know i'll just get the 1800 number and call from a landline just had to use the cussing guy at least once in this thread :D

oh and about the disassembly, if it didn't void the warranty i'd think about it, but since that is an option i'm keeping it in tact.

luv2chill 02-24-2007 01:48 AM

Heh... good point. So that I can actually be helpful to you, here's a link that should get you what you're looking for:

http://www.phonenews.com/phones/inde...Numbers#Sprint

Let us know how it all turns out.

Glossman 02-24-2007 02:14 AM

ImCoKeMaN,

Let us know what happens after you take the phone to Sprint.

If Sprint doesn't hook you up, perhaps Unified ROM Project Team can. :D

schettj 02-24-2007 03:19 AM

Gaah... that's crappy.

Um... yeah. I got no good ideas :(

Hopefully it can be resolved.
