helmi_Apache_kitchen_3.5_PPCGeeks

ppcgeeks brings you the first fully stable Aku 3.5 rom kitchen for the Apache (XV6700/PPC6700).

This kitchen is 100% stable and has full functionality. A rom kitchen is a kit which allows you to easily add your own oem packages to a rom to make it your own.

Credits:
Original port by Helmi
Further work done by ImCoKeMaN
Completed by verizonguy

Get it here:
ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@ppcgeeks.com/Apache

Note: This kitchen has fully functioning usb, smartdialing and ## codes directly from the dialpad (first time for aku 3.x). You may customize the theme or dialpad skin without hurting functionality.

Enjoy!

Edit: There are apparently 2 small bugs: mms registry setting & an entry in the dialpad for contacts....

This will be the first ROM I've done myself. Thanks for the kitchen.

How do I add clearstorage.exe back in?

bradstewart - Until someone uploads it as an OEM package (sorry, I've got to get to bed or I would) you can download the helmi 3.3 kitchen or HELMI_Apache_3.5_KITCHEN_PPC-GEEKS_r1.1.rar from the FTP and retrieve it out of the OEM folder. Both of those kitchens have it. I am not really sure why it was omitted from this one. The MSN stuff is still missing from this kitchen too.

I don't think this can really be a proper base kitchen without those two packages included by default, since they exist in all of the official ROMs for this device. If people want to remove them they can delete the appropriate OEM packages as part of their customization process.

Also, for this to be considered the new stock kitchen I propose that any third-party apps be removed. The point of starting with a kitchen is that people put in the OEMs that they want. The stock kitchen should as closely resemble an official CE ROM as possible. From what I can tell the OEMs that don't belong are Magic Button, TCPMP, Total Commander, and Arcsoft MMS (debatable since most carriers include it but in the past it has never been part of the default OS ROM for any carrier).

Nice work on the fixes and I'm glad you were able to recover the kitchen but can you please tell us which OEM folder(s) you added/modified? Also maybe share some details as to your thought process in going about fixing this and where you sourced the files from that you replaced? All of this should be documented so that we can learn from this.

Thanks.

I'm downloading it now - noticeably larger than the 3.5 r1.1, so makes me wonder what's been added, changed, deleted.

I plan to run Araxis merge against both Kitchens to see how much has changed.

I appreciate your work. I think you mentioned smart dialer and the ## was working. Is there any way to just fix those things without installing magic button, total commander etc and keep things like clear storage? I'd really like something very close to a base install. Every bit of storage is precious to me as these things have an absurdly small amount of memory. Can't believe they only bumped it to 256 on the 6800. I never EVER thought I'd have any mac envy before the iphone.

Thanks

If it's in the ROM it doesn't use any storage memory - so whether you use the app or not, it is just there in the ROM. As much will fit in the ROM is the way to go - then you won't need to add it the limited storage memory.

Thanks I did not know that - in that case, does this one have .net CF2.1? - I swear I'm not trying to be in pain in the ass, I'm just asking - I don't know squat about these kitchens vs. custom vs... I'm learning thanks to the effort people like helmi, verizonguy and others are putting into this and more importantly SHARING all there work with dorks like me.

I read the readme.txt file with his AKU but didn't go any further yet as I'd like to know more about this -
ClearStorage.exe - I know what it is but would like to keep it for further updates if possible - is there a folder I can copy back before doing the AKU update so it goes into the storage.

MSN1 - no idea what these three are for/
MSN2
MSN3

wavedev.dll - I don't know what this is
ms2_usbfn.dll - I'm guessing this is the USB fix - mine worked fine with AKU 3.5 helmi kitchen - does this do something more?

Thanks again everyone for your info and help.

Anyone know of the system requirements to run the createos.exe? For some reason I cannot run it on my PC at work, but runs fine at home. No error, just never runs. Does it require a particular version of .net or something else?
Thanks!
