a few newbie questions

I have sprint and just switched over to their sero plan and have the ppc6700 coming this week. I was originally going to wait until the 6800 came out but my phone stopped working and had to call retentions sooner. I am a novice to smart phones and dont completely understand all the options for my new phone.

I understand that i likely will need a few extra batteries for this thing and was wondering if they are all the same off ebay or should i be looking for something in particular.

I was told that the web surfing prg that comes on the ppc6700 isnt that good. what is recommended. i dont mind paying for it if it is a good deal better than the free stuff.

I plan to eventually watch tv on it via slingbox or movies that i convert and will likely need a new miniSD card. Is there a speed or brand that is superior?

I dont quite get what the special ROMs here give you in terms of options that are superior to the installed or company produced. a brief comment on what makes them much better would be great

thanks for listening.

One thing that was a must was an extended battery that did not change the form factor of the Apache. There are some that will last longer, 1500mAh vs the stock 1350mAh.

One thing that I would recommend, is not buying software until you are completely sure you will be using it a lot. Test it out, delete it, test it again. As you learn more about different "free" upgrades, you'll figure out which software is really worth buying for you.

I've never had any problems with the mid-range 1GB and 2GB miniSD's.
I'd worry about $10 2GB cards though.

This is where it becomes extra "fun". (read: painful)

Just as a little introduction, your phone has different Operating System Versions all based on Windows Mobile 5.

They all operate in very similar ways, newer versions tend to be faster and sometimes more stable.

PPCGeeks.com, Wideawake, Helmi_c and many other's have brought us these "better" operating system versions, and taught us how to create our own.

We can add programs into your PPC just like it was fresh off the shelf. We can patch bugs and create fixes for things that Sprint would tell you to "bring it in".

On the flip side, we create many mistakes and no one here is paid one red cent to do this, it's all out of love.

Welcome to PPCGeeks, and to the Apache phone, we're all having fun and testing things for the heck of it. I hope you do too!

as for the battery, ive seen some 2300 mAh batteries, but on battery life upgrading from the sprint official to the base Hemi_C AKU 3.3 i've almost doubled battery life wit the stock batt. Has some bugs that you need to fix though. And you can (Almost) Allways go back if you dont like the newer rom
