Verizonguy's 3.5 Beta 2.1 (fixed usb, smartdialer, ##)

UPDATE: Beta 2.1 is now available for public testing. It is designed for Verizon users, but appears to be fully functional for Sprint users so please post here with your test results including your carrier.

It is very important that you hard reset after successfully flashing this rom.

You can change the bootup splash screen with the tools found on this site if you don't like my custom Verizon one.

With > Beta 2.1 you may now use different themes without breaking smartdialing. :)

Thanks go to Helmi for the original port to apache, ImCokeMan for continuing his work on the port and to Wideawake for hosting this site and making the guides and tools available to make this rom possible.

Enjoy.

Nice!

Please document your fixes when you get a moment verizonguy. We're all building off of each others' work here, so it would be great to learn what you did to solve these issues. From your comments I take it the smart dialing and ## code issues both relate to the phone skin.

mcq3000 02-20-2007 01:15 AM

yeah verizonguy if we could get what you did exactly to the rom or what registry changes you made and so on to get smartdialer and II working we would really appreciate it. thanks

mcq3000 02-20-2007 01:17 AM

better yet could you post the kitchen version of your rom to the ftp so we can choose between the compiled one you posted and the kitchen rom so we can add our own OEMs to it and compile it, we would really appreiate it thanks alot verizonguy for your hacks

I was just talking to ImCokeMan about that very thing. It's a bit embarassing but near the end, at around 4am and a 9 hour session, I accidentally deleted the wrong directory and lost all the work I had done....I had to pull the latest test rom I had off my 6700 and then work backwords to finish it, so I don't have the kitchen anymore or the full list of registry entries or modules.

I will most likely go back at some point and either make a base kitchen for everyone to use or at least a list of modules/registry entries.

mcq3000 02-20-2007 01:26 AM

well can we get what you integrated into this rom? does it have .net2cf? mms? live seach? a summary of what extras you included in this rom would help out alot. thanks

Sure, nothing :) This is beta2, so no additional functionality or toys. It's a base, plain vanilla, but fixes the annoying problems we've been living with in 3.5 like broken usb, ## codes not working, no smartdialer, etc. ;)

Starting with the release candidate builds, I'll start introducing some basic but essential utilities and a couple of common tweaks.

It has the basic arcsoft mms, but the rest of the mms is setup by cabs from verizon, sprint, etc. .net2 will be added in RC versions. I'm watching the beta of .net to decide which version.

technole 02-20-2007 01:30 AM

these secrets are killing me!

is this just a plain rom with the titled fixes? Any extras? Sounds like i'm just going to have to install this rom to see what verizonguy did.

Exactly :) This is a plain vanilla with the much needed fixes. Later versions will have some utilities and tweaks. I believe in keeping roms relatively plain so people can customize their own without having to tinker with the rom itself much.

I concur. If anything maybe another version of this rom with Saridnour's tweaks and the bare essentials

Alwaysbelieve1 02-20-2007 01:51 AM

I would love a kitchen of this or a cab with the patches to the issues so I can continue to customize my own rom. :)

Thanx for your hard work on this.

luv2chill 02-20-2007 01:57 AM

OK hear me out.... even if you lost your kitchen and files, etc. don't you remember anything about what fixed the issues? Like you were replacing skin registry entries or copying files over from an AKU 3.3 ROM or something? Recovering the kitchen doesn't really matter so long as you share your thought process involved in fixing the problems.

If I recall correctly the USB issue was previously solved, all that really matters is the smartdialer and ## code issues, which (as I said before) seem to relate to the phone skin. Can you not remember what it is that you changed? Even on a surface level? Anything? Throw us a bone here.

Now that makes perfect sense Luv. Yeah this guy NEEDS to let us know. In fact if it wasn't for people, such as Hemi, freely sharing his ideas, programs and files we wouldn't have anything to even discuss here.

technole 02-20-2007 02:17 AM

Verizonguy, I like your startup logo a lot. I'm going to keep it :)

Now gotta find a "its the network!" logo, hehe.

Keep you updated...

technole 02-20-2007 02:57 AM

loaded no ext-rom, and sync'd.

What do I have to do to get the smartdialer working? I get the regular dialer, but i think it tried the smartdial once but that area where it popped up...it showed the desktop wallpaper.

I'm not "withholding" information or something as you're starting to make it sound. I just haven't had a chance to retrace my steps to get the specifics. It was a matter of rebuilding a couple of existing intellidial/dialpad modules, filling in some missing files obtained from an htc package and several registry entries. As I said, I'll retrace my steps when I have time to and either make a kitchen or the files/modules & registry entries. I'm in the process of finishing my basement and have been busting my ass on getting people a working rom.

Are you on sprint or verizon? Just flashing the rom & then doing a hard reset should enable smartdialing for you. Open the phone screen then click menu. You sould see the smartdial menu.

VZW

Yeah, I see the smartdial menu and I made sure its on. I might try one more hard reset, just in case.

No toys? Unless i have the wrong rom, I see total commander, magic button, and MSN missing...and the ## stuff works.

ImCoKeMaN 02-20-2007 07:46 AM

That makes me think he probably used one of my original test revisions of the 3.5 kitchen since i included those changes (probably before the usb fix was incorporated..R1 or R2).

I'm sure verizonguy will want to share his changes when he gets the time and i certainly hope it's sooner rather than later, but we do need to remember that it this forum isn't anyone's job. It's a community and we try to work together to do our part.

technole 02-20-2007 10:38 AM

still no dice though on the smartdialer. Tried fiddling with the settings too.

evans 02-20-2007 11:02 AM

No SmartDialer also ...

Thanks for your hard work verizonguy - USB and ## codes are working well.

The "SmartDial Options..." menu does appear in the dialer menu, but the smartdial stuff does not appear when I try dialing.

I have hard reset 2 times, once I skipped the ExtRom stuff, and once I allowed it all to run. (vzw is my carrier)

Thanks again for your work - if you want me try anything (regedit, etc) let me know.

Also, if you need more testers for future revisions, let me know - be happy to help (also looking forward to a base kitchen with your mods - great work!)

I'm sure VZN users will love this, great work!

I compiled yours into a single installer and put it up on my thread, hope that's ok with you.

verizonguy 02-20-2007 11:26 AM

It looks like some people aren't able to make the smartdialing work. I'll look further into it and see what's up. I won't be able to do any work on the rom until this weekend. Busy week & working on finishing my basement.

Of course its okay.

technole 02-20-2007 12:08 PM

So far I have to say this rom is a showstopper for me. It looks like it tries to load the smart dial, and when i turn it off sometimes i can't see what i'm dialing.

Okay, so the ## isn't working for sprint users. Okay, thanks, good to know. Out of curiousity, which ##s did you try? Did you try ##778?

For the smartdialer, does it show up in the menu but doesn't appear to work?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

(Sprint)
Yes, the menu shows up but doesn't appear to work......and none of the ## codes work.

Everything was going well I was able to *228 and it worked properly. Smart dial doesn't seem to work. Also I am unable to sync with my Exchange server (0x85010014).

-=>Update<=-
Sync fixed... My frontend server was up but mailbox server's IIS was down.

No problem syncing here, via desktop or OTA with exchange server.

I have a 6700 from Verizon with the push e-mail update. Can someone point me to a link or just list the benefits of installing this ROM? Is this a WM6 ROM? I already have PDANet, so I'm not worried about connection sharing. I also don't use my 6700 as a phone, got a separate cellphone instead after using the 6700 for 6 months.

The 6700 in its current config could sure be sped up, so if that's one of the benefits, I might give it a try.

Thanks,

Mike

Good news. I've worked the bugs out of the smartdialer and it is now fully functional.

Further good news: You can now change your theme without messing it up :)

I'm packaging the latest version now and will have it on the ftp shortly.

verizonguy 02-20-2007 08:07 PM

Beta 2.1 uploaded. Go ahead and grab it.

muscle1 02-20-2007 08:36 PM

What about for the Sprint users?? Any love???

Any chance you can tell us what you did to fix it. Thanks.

yep, smartdialing and ##prl# works on sprint 6700

thanks

It works for sprint, but from what I'm hearing, ## codes don't work directly from dialpad.

It was essentially fixed with the beta 2.0 rom. It was just buggy. The remaining bugs were squished by trial and error with intellipad modules.

nobrakes 02-20-2007 08:53 PM

can u tell us what u did to make smartdialing and ##code work? i have sprint 6700 and they both work fine

To clarify, when you say they work fine, you're saying my beta 2.1 makes ## work for sprint users as well?

I've already addressed several times in this thread "what I've done" in my rom to fix things. I unfortunately don't have a comprehensive list of files and registry entries for you. I will eventually update our 3.5 kitchen with my fixes, but it will take me reinventing the wheel as I lost my original work in an unfortunate deletion accident :(

This really doesnt answer my question. Did you make changes in the registry, dlls, in the rom kitchen itself. If i have colonel's 3.5 rom installed can i fix this problem with the rom already installed or are you plain saying the only way to fix this is to download your rom? Sorry about the questions but this is the hand you dealt me.

EDIT: Just read what you said above and will wait for your reverse engineering when you get time. Thanks

nobrakes 02-20-2007 08:58 PM

yes, i tried ##778# and ##775# on your beta 2.1 and it works fine. So what's the secret?
