Big Problem with Beta 2.1?
At least, it's a BIG problem on my phone ...
After dialing a number from my keypad, I now see the "Contacts" / "Menu" soft keys, where I used to see the "Contacts" soft key change to "Keypad" during a call. This means that I can't pull up a keypad on the screen and type any numbers while I'm in the middle of a call - such as PIN numbers, etc. I see that others in this thread are seeing the same problem. I'll have to go back to Helmi_C's AKU 3.3 if there isn't a quick fix to this on my phone. BTW, I can't seem to get any ## numbers to work on my Verizon phone either with the Beta 2.1. I'm not sure if it is related to the fact that I hit the soft reset during the "Loading Custom Software in 3 seconds" prompt after flashing the ROM. BTW, Thanks for all the hard work, verizonguy! There are a lot of us who appreciate what you've done! Cheers! ¿GotJazz? |
Hi Verizonguy,
I would love to see the following in the final version of this product: - New RDP client - WM6 sounds - WM6 splash and theme - Working USB - .net cf2 to replace .net cf1 - Speed tweaks - 2*A2DP audio fix - Maybe even a tweak for software to be able to accept 802.11g - HTC X Task Manager - As much free storage space to be able to install than 48 or 42 meg's what ever verizon allowed us typically to have... |

Where did he go?
|
Would u guys PLEASE read the entire thread b4 posting? He left b/c of postings like the above.
|
Well... I sorry to hear that other people have been ungrateful... I was just requesting... I apprecate someone actually taking the time to work on this and to get it accomplished. I just now logged in and noticed everthing today... So I am very sad to hear that other people have been ungrateful to Verizonguy....

iampedro: why not just run my rom as you copied and pasted the list from my roms feature list ;) BTW the *2 in "2*A2DP audio fix" is a reference to the note #2 listed below it.

Hi Verizonguy,
I am confused also... But I am glad that you haven't completely left ppcgeeks.com |
Don't be confused.. I was just giving iampedro a hard time as he copied and pasted his feature request from my roms list of features.
See here: http://ppcgeeks.com/saridnours-aku-3...pr4-t2805.html I also noted the * in one of his requests was just a note I made to more info in that thread and not part of the fetures title. :D -saridnour |
I understand that I copied and pasted things... I just have a xv6700 phone and I was just inquiring if Verizonguy could implement those request... I didn't know that they were already requested... I was just re-indicating and encouraging Verizonguy to continue developing what he has done.
|
iampedro: I was just giving you a hard time :)
|
Okay... I just don't want discourage developers I want to encourage them... If I wasn't in my last semster at College I would give it a go at developing my own rom or even modifying a rom to make it better.... :)

WiFi issues
I flashed to Verizonguy's ROM, and everything looks great, except for this: I connect to my WiFi network at home ok, but when I run IE it can't find any pages on the web. If I connect through EVDO it does, Anyone else seen this ?

Go to Settings->Connections tab->Wi-Fi->Network Adapters tab. Select the wireless adapter from the list. On the IP Address tab, select server assigned IP Address. Click on the Name Servers tab and enter in two dns ip addresses in the top 2 fields. You can find these dns server addresses from your admin panel of your router or on a home computer click the start button, run, type cmd, enter, then type ipconfig /all then hit enter. This isn't usually necessary in any version of wm5, aku 3.5 or otherwise, but if you're having that problem, this will usually fix it. |
Cool, thanks for the quick reply. I'll have to flash back to yours and try that. I was on something of a ROM spree last night, I tried 4 different ones. :D
|
Ok, this is weird. I flashed back to yours, and with no modifications it is surfing over wifi just fine. I'm writing this post from my 6700 over my wifi network.
Thanks again for all your hard work! |

I'm glad to see that you are back! ¿GotJazz? |
Soft reset == trashed sd card
I've noticed an issue which I'm seeing pretty regularly with this rom. I have a 4GB storage card, and when I soft reset it trashes the card, requiring a reformat from Windows. Has anyone else had this problem ?
|
Hmm... but not always it appears. I'm going to play with this some more and see if I can narrow down the circumstances under which it happens.

from what i've heard there are 2 things that can cause it. installing programs to the card that should be installed to the device and some issues with versions of cf .net. PS my beta rom never left beta status. I would recommend building 3.5 from the latest kitchen. shawn implemented my stuff in that version. I may work more on 3.5 but have been working on wm6. the xip chains have been a headache though |
Is the kitchen you posted in your directory a good one or is that still beta ? The rom I'm currently running was built from that with my own tweaks.
|
Ahh dude. already on wm6, dang your fast. hehe. im just worried there are not enough verizon users out there continuing the effort. I just hate losing things in translations. hehe. ;)
|
Ya, we need more like verizonguy, to work on rom's for vzw....
|
verizonguy: is there a specific part of your kitchen that addresses the ##dialer issues ? I cooked a rom from a different one that had the smart dialer and keypad in call working, but I lost the ability to dial ##778.
|
Ugh i fixed my issues, i just did 3 hard resets and it seemed to remedy everthing.
AWESOME ROM! thank you verizonguy. I am having some problems with the internet sharing. my pc is rejecting it saying the device has performed an error. it seems to me its looking for some kind of driver can anyone point me in the right directions thanks |
Hey can anyone post me a link to the thread where someone explained what all the progs in the ext rom are for verizon?
im doing search but i can't find it. |
Verizonguy.... I have just bought my xv6700 and am waiting for it in the mail... i just wanted to tell you that your rom will be the first thing i put on my phone... just a quick question though... do i need to activate it on the network first or can i put your rom on and then activate it... plus is there anything i need or do i just plug it in to the usb port and start the program konceptz put up? thank you in advance...
|
Well, Im not Verizonguy... but if it were me and I just got my new 6700 in the mail, I would put insurance on it :) , activate it, make sure its up to date and running smooth... then flash rom's to your hearts delight.
As far as what you need to do to flash your phone, just search for the information on putting your phone in bootloader mode. Good luck. |
well thanks for the quick reply... i bought my phone refurbished off ebay, but i bought insurance for it. it's like 2 years if i send it back they'll send me another one.... so i put the 6700 in bootloader mode and hook it up to the computer and it's all ready to go? i love when it's that easy.... just a quick question i don't know if anyone will know the answer, but does this rom do anything with the picture/text messaging.... cause i've been reading some stuff about how verizon charges you for txt/pix msging even if you already have a txt/pix messaging plan... i want to completly disable ev-do that way i don't have any xtra charges..... i don't know now i'm thinking is this the best rom for me? or is there one that already does what i want and will work for verizon?

Wasupwithuman,
Thanks, but I wouldn't recommend using my beta 3.5 rom anymore. The others available on ppcg integrated my fixes and are down to only a couple of bugs. As for the disabling ev, you can do that through an advanced menu on the phone, but honestly, it doesn't matter. Data usage is data usage when you have this type of phone. Using other non-pocket pc phones, you could disable evdo using just 1x and teather and be using just plan minutes (free nights and weekends) but the pocket pcs like the 6700 measure all data usage, regardless of whether you use ev or 1x. Honestly there is no benefit in disabling the ev on this phone unless you're on the edge of a coverage area and the phone is constantly searching back and forth which will hurt your battery life. Other than that, don't bother. I recommend getting an unadvertised plan called the Core Choice plan. Normally you pay 50-60 for an unlimited data plan then 40+ for a calling plan. The Core Choice starts at 79.99 and includes UNLIMITED data and 450 anytime minutes, free in network, nights weekend, etc. Watch out for those MMS picture messages though & SMS text messages. If you know what you're doing you get con them into giving you free unlimited texting like I did :) |
