Sound is dead

First off, thanks, Colonel! I love the new ROM.

I am not necessarily attributing the following issue to the ROM update, but it has happened twice now, and I am running the AKU3.3b3:

My sound on the PPC is dead. There is no output coming from the speaker on the back of the unit, nor the smaller speaker on the front. The unit seems to be working fine other wise (if I use a bluetooth headset or plug in the earbuds I can hear just fine). It died on Sunday and I actually went to take it to a Sprint store to get it repaired, but after driving around all day looking for wherever they moved the authorized repair center to, the sound suddenly started working again. Now, before the sound started working again I had re-flashed it back down to AKU2.2 just to be sure nobody would fault me for flashing my ROM. Earlier today I flashed the AKU3.3b3 again and it worked for a while. Then, I received a phone call and the ringtone from that inbound call was the last sound I've heard out of the thing. I really don't think this is a hardware problem - I think it's a software setting. If it is, it's a resilient little sucker, because I have hard-reset several times trying to clear it out.

Update: Ringtones work. But none of the system sounds work, including the little blips when I change the volume. This is not a hardware issue.

It sounds like it's caused by an app you're installing. If you hard reset does the sound come back? If so, try installing your apps one at a time and testing the sound in between to find the culprit.

Sound comes and goes

The sound came back after a hard reset... merely the last one in a series of hard-resets. This time I am using the ROM without loading a single add-on app, and I am seeing all kinds of slowness... long pauses where the system isn't dead but it isn't responding to any of my inputs either. I would like to think if I am patient I will be able to use this ROM, 'cause it's got a lot of features built in. But I am becoming frustrated

backslash- I know you said you tried going back to aku 2.2 and then reinstalling 3.3 beta 3 but try going back to aku 2.0 since that was the last official supported rom from sprint. Then try installing 3.3 beta 3 again. I'm sorry your having so many problems with it. I've been using it for 4 days with problems whatsoever (minus exactly 3 shell errors since install). I havent noticed any slowness at all and am actually quite impressed with the speed of it. I hope it works out for you.

Note: To fix the Batti error that is caused when you tap the meter at the top, Battery info is shown, and you select Settings, add this reg entry:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\DAPROFIK\BATTI]
string "InstallDir" value "\Windows"

Thanks luv2chill

This will be fixed in any further updates.

I just installed the latest 3.3 beta 3 Sprint No Junk (2/20/2007 2:38PM) on a client's phone and noticed that it is missing Microsoft Word. Excel and Powerpoint are there, but not Word.

if you are having shell errors, actually everybody with colonels rom, check the value of fatfs cache with the ppc 6700 hacks program. The value is set to 16584 or something like that. that value is not entirely divisible by 16 and that might be the reason for the shell errors or the ppc being unstable (memory is read\written to in 16 mb blocks). change the value to 16384 or something lower like 8096 or 4096. (default value is actually 0, so it is still better).
Also if your program memory constantly runs low, reduce the value of glyph cache to either 32768 or 24576. (trade of: speed to memory).
did this last night and my phone did not freeze while charging overnight like it used to.

I am having the same issue with the Rx Power fluctuating dramatically. (run fieldtrial.exe in the windows folder) as I was having with the Beta2 version. However, after a couple of hard resets, the Beta2 version had stopped fluctuating so bad and I was keeping my signal even in low areas (home). I tried out Beta3 and had the same problem now. I have hard resetted it at least 5 times and each time it still fluctuates.

ROM 2.11.20 WWE
Radio version 1.27.00
ExtROM 2.06.303 WWE
PRL 20224
PRI 1.19_003

any ideas?
