using HTC64 Extended ROM Tool.exe for splash screen update

Warning: High possibility of bricking your phone, and it was unsuccessful so far for my apache.

I found out how to set up the .prj file to have this program replace the splash screen with a .nb image file. Then I figured i'd try some of the standard images like SPCS.nb to include in the rom as a test. After doing this the program made a ROM, but when i flashed it the telecom logo was still there and the device would not boot.

I'm currently wondering if this program is designed for a VGA device perhaps. I would think that it so it should still have messed up my boot screen even if it didn't display properly. Another more likely option i suppose is that this tool is for a different device which might use a different area for the boot image. That seems to make the most sense since it didn't boot, but the image was still the same as it used to be. I suppose it could also be a combination of the two.

Now i'm wondering if there is another encoder tool we could use or if we could possibly patch this one to work. If anyone is feeling brave they could try this for themselves as well, maybe i am having PC issues since a few things i've tried seem to turn out differently than other peoples results lately (ex: sprint oem package and USB with RNDIS on 3.5)
