Couldn't be easier. Transfer them over to the 6700 (either via storage card or via ActiveSync's "Explore" option), then use file explorer to browse to wherever you put them and tap on a cab file once with the stylus (or arrow and enter keys if you like one-handedness). Voila!

I attempted to to just this very thing this morning; transfer to my phone.

Instead, I got a message that some files may need to be converted and active sync converted my MMS (.cab) from one of the post here, into a zip, then wouldn't open.

That message is normal... doesn't mean any conversion is taking place. And what made you think it was a zip file? Was it just the icon or did the file extension change?

And to be clear, once you transfer the file you open it from the 6700, not on your PC.

That was the extension displayed; along w/ icon.

Thank you; my attempt was from the PC

Maybe you downloaded the MMS file in zip format to begin with? Cab files are often zipped up to save space. If you open up the zip file from your PC do you see the cab file inside? If so, extract it and then copy the cab file you extracted over.

If not, I'm not sure what's going on. But I can tell you one thing for sure--activesync will never convert a cab file to anything else. Windows Mobile devices live and breathe cab files so activesync knows to keep them as-is. Try it again (maybe with a different cab file) and see what happens.

If he has a tool like winrar installed on his PC (dont we all), cab files show up on the PC with the same icon as a zip/rar/tar file. Heck, it even does a somewhat good job at extracting files out of cabs... so you may have the right file, just put it on the phone and try running it there.

I thought of that, but he said the file extension changed as well, so that's why I didn't think that was the problem. His lack of response hopefully means he got it figured out.

Ok, getting back to this subject; I did indeed download the cab file; upon moving it to my PPC using active sync, this is what I get.....

"Microsoft Active Sync may need to convert files when synchronizing between your mobile device and this desktop computer.

Note: A converted file might not contain all information found in the original file."

Eh, standard message. Can generally be ignored, although you can turn off file conversions if you so choose (under Tools -> Advanced Tools). I doubt that's what's causing the problems.
