I would kind of say the opposite when it comes to push and battery. I receive a number of emails through out the day and my phone is almost in constant sync because of it. It is not uncommon for me to kill a fully charged battery within 3-4 hours. Unfortunately, my email is high priority because of my position. I cannot afford to do a scheduled sync, but you may consider it if you have a number of messages and it is not major that you receive them real time.
