BT headset button won't activate phone

On the original Verizon WM5 ROM, I could wake up the phone and activate the voicedial application by pressing the button on my bluetooth headset. I've upgraded to phoenx06's C&S ROM, which I like very much, but now this doesn't work any more. Does anyone know: should it? how to fix it? I miss this feature...

Re: BT headset button won't activate phone

Yep, I did check the software that was included. It does in fact have a voice dialer included with it, although I installed a different one and tried putting its .exe file into the registry key where one specifies the name of the program to run when the BT headset's button is pressed. Neither one worked. The problem is that nothing at all happens when I hit the BT button - the phone doesn't wake up at all, and it doesn't activate any program that might be indicated by that registry key. I think the problem is "upstream" of having or not having a piece of software - I think the phone is not woken up by the BT button so it never gets to try to run anything. Actually, even if the phone is awake, the button doesn't do anything. The BT headset's button only works within the phone application, to answer an incoming call or to hang up a call. Do you know of any way to debug this problem? I am trying to find anyone else using this ROM to see if they have the same problem, but so far no one has replied.

Thanks,

Mike

Don't know what the ROM u are using is 5, 6, or 6.1. Have you ever considered cooking with the Helmi 6.0 kitchen? One of the software options is Voice Command. The voice recognition works great on my Jabra headset. It not only controls phone but opens programs as well.

I'd love to do that; the problem is, I don't know nearly enough to cook it properly. I'm a molecular biologist with a background in computer science but I have no experience with Windows (or Windows Mobile) and am too busy to read everything necessary to really know what I'm doing. It would be fun to get into it, but I've also got 2 kids and there's simply not enough time in the day to learn all of the intricacies of this... There was one person on here who was going to help me (for a consulting fee of course) and put together a custom ROM for me based on what I need (and software I have), but I haven't been able to get a reply back from him in months. Do you know of anyone who might be interested in that?

Re: BT headset button won't activate phone

Hey, it is not hard at all. You definitely don't need to pay anyone (you might consider a donation to the kitchen makeers). You just need the kitchen (PPC-BuildOS), the OEM.rar (ingredients or your carrier specific info), and the RUU (the updater). I read a bit before I did it just to make sure I couldn't do anything really bad (but there is always the disclaimer that you could brick your phone). I feel pretty comfortable with the latest WM6 kitchen but I'm holding out on the 6.1 (seems a bit buggy for me from the posts). The main things are make sure you have an XP machine with AS 4.5, .NET 2.0 Framework, and check as few of the options as you can in your ROM recipe (it's hard cuz like being in a candy store) so that the ROM is not too big.

Check it out this tutorial by Ga.Medic et.al.:

Or you can buy Voice Command from Microsoft here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...d/default.mspx

It's about $40 and doesn't announce right in headset in WM5.

Re: BT headset button won't activate phone

Thanks for the links! I probably should try it. I like the phoenx06 C&S ROM and I'm not sure if everything in it is also in this kitchen or not. The BT button thing is huge though...
What I was hoping in trying to hire one of the experts on this board is to have someone cook me up a ROM that had my settings and the software I own already in it, so that I wouldn't have to customize so much when I hard-reset.
By the way, I tried MSVC and I didn't like it (it couldn't understand me very well, which is odd because I don't have any sort of weird accent). But what I did get is Cyberon Voice Commander (not the simpler Dialer), and this is awesome - very very good.

Re: BT headset button won't activate phone

Well, that would be a huge undertaking to incorporate your own software into the kitchen. I'm not sure it is that cost effective to do that. It's not that hard to reinstall .CABs and I usually have them, and contacts and calendars, and ringtones and custom stuff, sync-ed to PCs. The hard-reset is traumatic sometimes so I don't try to challenge my ROM too much. My 6700 is doing everything I want right now so I'm happy.

Yeah, the VC can act up at times. If it doesn't get it right the first time, the second option is not even close. Hey, it is kind of StarTrek technology so I have to give it break.

Your BT problem sounds weird and associated to the ROM. I think I've read about special button mapping software on the forum if you are sure the app is there. Look in that post where the power button was crushed. Hope you get it fixed.

I see. I didn't know how bad it would be. Ok. Then is there a list (explanation) of what all the individual stuff in that kitchen is, so that I can make informed decisions about what I'm including and what I'm not including? Thanks,

Mike

Re: BT headset button won't activate phone

If I'm not mistaken, I cooked a couple of months ago and must have got it right the first time, an explanation comes up when you hover over the item. Most are pretty apparent and if you don't know for sure, don't check it. More room to add something you really want.

The essential stuff you really need for your phone to work is already checked when you specify your carrier, so don't uncheck anything unless you specifically don't want Windows Live or something like that. It's all about the space.
