Verizon Extended ROM contents

This is my first post here - I'm an old programmer, but new to mobile, so I am learning with my new 6700.

Someone asked about what the Verizon Extended ROM does - I went through it just for my own edification and found that it basically contains a script that shows the Verizon logo, locks the touchpad, loads a bunches of cabs, and then unlocks the touchpad. The Cabs seem to do the following (Now in proper order):

VZWProvision_Signed.sa.CAB - Add certificates and sets security policy for WAP signed messages.

Apache_VZW_MMS3.0.6.24_20060124.CAB - ArcSoft MMS Application install.

getMMSCtxMenuInfo.CAB - Context (popup) Menu Support for ArcSoft MMS

Customize_105201.sa.CAB - Installs files and makes Registry settings:
Setup Proxy for Data Network
Setup Data Network (#777)
Add 2 VZW Certificates.
VZW default home page for Browser
Copy epst2.epst into \Windows (Activation Wizard data file?)
Remove Windows Media link from start menu
Add Phone Settings help htm to \Windows
Add Downloads link to start menu (handango)
Add network service settings
Add Handango to Favorites
Add TTY Mode settings to Services
Set version (overwritten later) "1.05.201 WWE"
Modify reg entries under HKCU\Control Panel\PhoneExtentFunction\CDMA:
Set Call Forwarding disabled
Set Call Waiting disabled
Set SMS disabled
Set Internet disabled
Set Bcsms disabled
phone # setup:
#778 - EPST ##778
#7764726 - EPST ##7764726
#374 - EPST ##374
#775 - EPST ##775
4357 - EPST ##4357
#33284 - FieldTrial
#3328873 - EPST ##3328873
#3424 - DMRouter
Enable SMS Delvery Ack
Enable SMS Recv Time Stamp
Set HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\P3\Enable to 1
Set HKLM\Services\WirelessMgr\MutexFlag to 1 (the hated MUTEX - reset later)
Location Phone Services setup
Keylock Enable? (HKLM\HARDWARE\OEM\KEYBRD\Keylock=1)

*86 added to registry for speed dial #1
Multi-NAI set to 1
Nolog set to 911, *911, #911, 110, 112, 119, 120, *228 (overwritten later)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\SMS\
EnablePriorityHighLevel=1
PriorityHighLevel=1

Enable_RingTone.sa.CAB - Adds Class Entry to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT for Ring Tone Player (RTPlugin.dll)

Region.sa.CAB - Clock, timezone and language settings:
HKLM\nls\DefaultLCID
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Clock\AppInfo
HKLM\Time\name=TimeZoneInformation

VZWProvision.PPC400_2577MTM.CAB - Installs Wireless Sync application.

Remove.sa.CAB - Removes the following registry entries:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\Sync Client
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\Customization Customize_100200
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\Arcsoft Arcsoft MMS
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\Customization VZWProvision
HKLM\Security\AppInstall\Sync Client
HKLM\Security\AppInstall\Customization Customize_100200
HKLM\Security\AppInstall\Arcsoft Arcsoft MMS
HKLM\Security\AppInstall\Customization VZWProvision
presumably hides them from the uninstaller?

Link.sa.CAB - Adds link in start menu for IE

PP_AreaCode_Apache_203700.sa.CAB - sets default area code in Registry (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\AddrBook\Default_Area) to 000

PP_Downlaod_Apache_203200.sa.CAB - Sets up download link to mobile.handango.com/vzw-6700/ in favorites for Explorer

PT_HideModeOfOperation_Apache_203200.sa.CAB - sets HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\HiddenPreferenceMod e to 1 - "Hide Mode of Operation in the Phone Setting" - this prevents you from accessing the Mode of Operation page (Hybrid/EVDO/1xRTT selection)

PT_WiFiAndRadio_Apache_203200.sa.CAB - sets HKLM\Services\WirelessMgr\MutexFlag to 0 - enables simultaneous WiFi and Phone use.

PP_Version_Apache_207200.sa.CAB - sets HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\3rdversion\MSYSTEM to "2.07.200 WWE" , overriding earlier setting in Customize_105201.sa.CAB

PP_Nolog_Apache_203200.sa.CAB - sets HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\NoLog value. #s not to add to dial history. Value is a set of null-terminated ASCII strings: 911,*911,#911,110,112,119,120,*228,*22899. Overrides earlier Customise cab setting!

PT_BT_Apache_205200.sa.CAB - Installs \Windows\ATCmdInt.dll Date 2/15/06, version 0.0.0.0, OS ver 4.0, Subsystem version 5.2

PP_AddRingTone_Apache_205200.sa.CAB - Adds the three basic Ring Tone .wma files to \Windows\Rings and sets current to newly-added ring 2

PP_MSFP_Apache_205200.sa.CAB - Messaging and Security Feature Pack heartbeat settings

PT_PhoneSettingHelpFile_Apache_205200.sa.CAB - Adds help page for phone settings

PP_DataRetry_Apache_205200.sa.CAB - Sets retry count to 0 - HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\RetryCount=0

PP_SMSACK_Apache_205200.sa.CAB - sets HKLM\Software\OEM\SMS\Delivery Ack to 3

Edit - added missing cabs, re-ordered to correct order

Yes, beautiful job on your first post. Stick around please!

Wasn't it Verizon users experiencing rapid battery drain with the newer ROMs? I can't remember what thread it was in, but I seem to remember either installing or not installing the extrom contents resolved it. Given olderdog's post, I wonder if it is the PP_MSFP_Apache_205200.sa.CAB that is either the problem or the solution. The heartbeat settings for MSFP would definitely alter the amount of time the EV-DO connection is active, which would therefore drastically alter battery life.

In any case, that cab deserves some investigation for all users (who exchange push, anyway) to see if the MSFP settings can be optimized for best balance between performance and battery life.

The heartbeat values are currently set by the CAB to:
Minimum: 900 (15 minutes)
Maximum: 7200 (120 minutes)
Default: 1800 (30 minutes)

But the actual heartbeat interval is negotiated with the Exchange Server within the above range. These seem to be longer values than MS recommends (after scanning the MS knowlegebase). Of course, every MSFP client device is maintaining an open HTTPS connection all the time with the Exchange server (but not passing traffic) so your firewall folks will likely be tearing their hair out....

I've also seen some notes that seem to indicate that setting the maximum to anything greater than 59 minutes will have no effect because of DAV limitations.....

Missed one!

Apache_VZW_MMS3.0.6.24_20060124.CAB - registry settings, initial JPG set, data files and binaries for ArcSoft MMS - integrates with email app. This is installed before getMMSCtxMenuInfo.CAB, which seem to be the popup menu dlls and registry settings.

Link.sa.cab relook

Looked again at this. It does install a link to IE in the AppButtons folder (so it will show up in the Start Menu)

Kudos... apparently older dogs can either learn new tricks or still show young pups a thing or two...

this is great, not sure if this will help some of us or not, but great! we have been having problems after flashing to aku3.3/3.5 getting MMS to work correctly. if you install the verizon cabs (let it all load) the verizon server is loaded but you cant creat a message (maybe b/c there is a second arcsoft mms installed???) been trying to get the new arcsoft on and get the server working in MMS config/servers. anyone know anything about verizon MMS with new AKU?

Okay, so if this has already been answered I would appreciate a link, but what are the settings for the Verizon data network? Or should I just install the Customize_105201.sa.CAB? Thanks in advance.
