Windows Mobile Device Center Vista 64bit

HI, I have the XV6700. I have WM6 installed ever sense hemli finished it (THANKS!) I would like to install the new BuildOS that I downloaded from PPCGeeks. Ok, now I can't backup my contacts. I have Vista 64bit installed so it uses Windows Mobile Device Center instead of Active Sync. When connected it shows Syncing, then it's synced. After that I get errors on syncing. I did save the pim.vol to the ext. memory card. So can I just install the new ROM and put the pim.vol back in the windows directory and it will be ok? Or should I download a trial program if I can find one that will work on Vista 64 and do a backup? And I don't use Outlook at all. Thanks for your time again, JASTECH

Re: Windows Mobile Device Center Vista 64bit

I tried a few times on Vista 64bit and now my Contacts is empty! So I copied the pim.vol from the external mamory and pasted it in the main directory and nothing! The file shows 484 KB. So is my PPC going bad? Should I flash rom bak to Verizon original and try and get a 6800?

Re: Windows Mobile Device Center Vista 64bit

I doubt if your 6700 is going bad. They have alot of problems with WMDC and there is a whole Windows Mobile Forum about it:

http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsM...1762&SiteID=65

You may want to pose the problem to them but their standard answer is usually delete partnerships, hard reset device, and try, try, again.

Is this with BT or USB or both? I've always read that the ROM flashing is more reliable with an XP machine running AS 4.5. Do you have one available for use?

Smile Re: Windows Mobile Device Center Vista 64bit

yeah man....I love Vista, but I won't Cook my roms on it.... It's hit and miss.

I just use my laptop with XP, and I freaking love my phone.... when I was hacking it with my Vista Desktop, I wanted to throw it against the wall....

It just causes a lot of issues.

You can still sync it, for file transfers and whatnot....but I'd suggest no cooking at all.

Re: Windows Mobile Device Center Vista 64bit

Hmmm, ok thanks you two! I drove to Verizon 113 miles and they sold me a SCH-i760. I was able to install contacts via my wifes XP Pro pc and USB cable but had to uncheck the Advanced Communications thing in "Connections". My Vista 64 still won't recognize it. So now to see if there is somfthing cooking in the KItchen for htis Samsung.

Re: Windows Mobile Device Center Vista 64bit

The only thing I can tell you is that it is not the WM6 Pro Helmi ROM 'cuz I'm running it on a XV6700 fine. I can synch contacts, calendar, and Outlook 2003 email with BT and USB to a Vista Business 32bit laptop no problem. I assume you have WMDC 6.1. They say you need 6.1 with WM6 but I don't know if it really matters. Have you done the SP1 upgrade yet? This is scaring me alot since it is supposed to go out over Windows Update later this month. I think I am going to disable the autoupdate till I hear how it affected everyone. I sympathize with you 'cuz I'm the type to be obsessed with getting these things to work. Sometimes the software wins...

Re: Windows Mobile Device Center Vista 64bit

In a somewhat related manner, I've always synched via AS on my desktop using XP, now that I have a laptop with Vista, the Mobile Center kicked in and now I can't synch with the desktop anymore. It won't recognise the phone at all. What to do? Even though it synchs with the Vista laptop, I can't transfer data etc. like I should be able to ,or was able to via XP. ANy suggestions as to what I can do about this. If I had to remove AS, where can I go to get a copy to reinstall?

Re: Windows Mobile Device Center Vista 64bit

That's strange. I can go back and forth between the 6700 and XP Home/AS4.5 and Vista Business/WMDC 6.1. I would try deleting the partnerships for the XP synch first, rebooting PC/soft reset 6700, and then remaking. Hopefully, it won't break the Vista partnership. Something that some ppl report is that WMDC causes the 6700 device name to change. You might check that to see if it has done that. That will effectively break the AS 4.5 partnership. It is some weird format so you should know. AS 4.5 can be downloaded from the Microsoft website but I wouldn't reinstall just yet.

Edit: Oh, and when you do remake the partnership uncheck the advanced networking (communication?) option. I can't remember what it's called right now either. You'll see it.
