Re: Thinking about buying one, any advice?
On the wifi subject, wifi is (b) and not (g) just turn it on...and you are go to go...even if the phone is not active...some people use voip via wifi of course on the 6700 as a secondary phone and on programs ...welll....this little puppy is just like a mini computter, heck it is running windows and there are plenty of software...just google "freeware wm5" and you will see all the uses this bad boy can be used for.
It has no GPS...but just buy a BT unit no big deal if you are going to use it for navigation. Read...read....and read some more. Welcome to the Apache world ![]()

Re: Thinking about buying one, any advice?
BT= Bluetooth; BT Unit= Bluetooth Unit, this means a Bluetooth GPS receiver that will communicate to the phone and then put the directions on the screen. Look at things like TomTom, Garmin GPS... Try Ebay, you may find one there at a good price. The 6700 is an awsome phone, it was my first PPC, I was sad when it killed by a rouge Lego.

Re: Thinking about buying one, any advice?
I think you have to examine what you want to use it for. Don't get it as a substitute .MP3 player. Sound quality is not that good. As a PPC/smartphone, there aren't many devices that are as capable. I assume you are not in the market for a 6800 (~$400 at VZW) and want something more cost effective. You will have to get up to speed on the jargon and hacking to get the WM6 or 6.1 ROM upgrades, which are recommended for the html email, threaded SMS, Windows Live, or IE zooming. If you don't care about these features, WM5 is good. I'm not sure what it takes to switch carriers or program an unlocked phone. Once you hack the ROM, you won't have access to hardware support from your carrier but there is plenty of support here. They know the 6700 here but be forewarned that you should do a thorough search before opening a thread. They get a little testy asnwering the same questions over and over again. So, if you are willing, welcome to the Apache World.

Re: Thinking about buying one, any advice?
The sound quality can be good depending on what music application and headset you are using. I have mine overclocked. I run IM+ which is a multi IM srvc app. I can FTP, ping, tracert, ect. I can stream music with Resco Pocket Radio, I use Resco Photo Viewer to view and edit any photos, I use Pocket Live TV to watch live TV. I use Pocket Weather for radar and forcast info. In fact you can go through the link in my sig for apps I have installed on my device and google those apps to see what they do and what I used the for.
I agree, IMHO, that Wm5 is better than WM6. I can still do threaded SMS, IF I fo email it is web based and not client so HTML means nothing to me, Windows Live I care nothing for and if you want a browser better than IE and still zoom then get Piscel. I also agree there is far more support (potential) here than from the carrier.
