Re: Live Search on Verizon DSL WIFI WEP
Lemme confirm and clarify here for a second. You are saying that you are using WM6 and can connect and surf via WEP encryption on a secured WiFi spot but cannot do Live Search (still connected via WEP) but that you can connect via an Unsecured WiFi network and can surf AND ALSO do Live Search, right?
Well that is weird and I think you are missing something because if you are connected to a WiFi spot and you know you are because you can ping and trace route (if you have those utils) and can surf then you should be able to to do Live Search. If you cannot do Live Search then I am willing to bet you are not connected online via any WiFi spot. The question on if it is the Verizon DSL Network I dont think is the direction of questioning you want to take but rather look more closely at the encryption method and steps you are going through to connect to it.

Re: Live Search on Verizon DSL WIFI WEP
I swear that I am not making this up. I am absolutely sure an internet connection exists on the XV6700. Every device on my home WEP-secured network, 3 laptops, printer, printer server, range expander, including the XV6700, has accepted the WEP key and connects perfectly. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Live Search program many times. Done many hard/soft resets and hoped that the updates would fix the problem. Sometimes, after reinstallation, it will actually do a few searches and then start the EV-DO connection by itself, so I don't know whether it worked from the WIFI or the EV-DO. I was hoping that cooking the Live Search in the WM6 ROM would help but it didn't. I've only seen reference to this problem a couple of times in various forums so I don't think it is a widespread program bug.
Believe me, on the pay as you go data plan, I am very attuned to the WIFI, phone, and data connection icons. The XV6700 indicates that it is connected to the WIFI network as well as my VZW bill. Live Search is the only issue. It is not that big of a deal for me to disable the WEP on my router but was just wondering what would cause it not to connect. Hoping for an easy fix. How could I have messed up on enabling security?? Last edited by gambatte; 03-24-2008 at 04:20 PM. |

Re: Live Search on Verizon DSL WIFI WEP
me wonders if it's a DNS issue at your house... Which would explain when u go somewhere else and use their wifi, you get their dhcp dns... I'd try altering your dns at home, and see iof anything changes.

Re: Live Search on Verizon DSL WIFI WEP
Thanks for the reply. I've played with alot of the settings that I could find in the different tabs when setting up the WIFI connection on PPC and tried to specify the DNS server to my router on the PPC but it doesn't help. I don't pretend to be a networking or PPC expert. It is just so bizarre. I haven't yet tried to get on another secured WIFI network. That will probably be the key. I know it is the security but what would Live Search look at differently than other internet programs? It is just bugging me because I have worked through alot of other issues that ppl have trouble with (like Voice Commander notification to a BT headset, BT syncing, etc). This should be so simple.

Re: Live Search on Verizon DSL WIFI WEP
Lemme get some clarifiacation here for a sec, you CAN connect and surf on your PPC on your home network using WEP and can surf until you ge tired of doing so but during that entire time you CANNOT use Live Search, correct?
BUT if you disable WEP on your router and go to an Unsecure connection type you can again connect and surf and ALSO then do Live Search, right? |

I have not disabled the security on my router to see if that works or not. My feeling is that it probably would. However, I spent close to a week getting a range expander to work on the network and I am unwilling to mess that up. I am not an expert on these things but have learned alot in the process that once you get something to work, don't touch it! As I mentioned previously, Live Search did not work with WM5 on my home network either. During a hard reset, I investigated possible conflicting programs. I only have the PHM Registry Editor, Yahoo 2 Go!, and that Invaders trial game loaded as extra programs and with all of them gone, Live Search still doens't connect. This network is about 4 years old. Stupid question but can the WEP key become corrupted? I can't even remember how the key was generated anymore. Another stupid question. I was thinking of doing a phone update with *228 on VZW. Would this be a bad idea with the helmi_c WM6 ROM? Last edited by gambatte; 03-25-2008 at 10:33 PM. |

Re: Live Search on Verizon DSL WIFI WEP
If all of you other computers and devices can connect on your network using WEP then your WEP key is fine. You can do a *228 and update the phone with no issues at all. From the software you think is causing a conflict, I do not think they will conflict but at the same time I have NEVER ran across the issue that you are describing. On a side note, you could back everything up, hardreset your 6700, load just the Live Search and connect back via WiFi and see if you could make Live Search function then. If not, then you know for sure there are no other conflicting softwares installed.

Re: Live Search on Verizon DSL WIFI WEP
Have you tried TEMPORARILY disabling WEP at home and verifying that Live will work on your network if it is not locked down?
Edit: Scratch this - "I didn't see this test in your list." I didn't spot it, thanks weedahoe. This is the next logical step for troubleshooting the problem. You don't need to reconfigure the entire network, just the router and the 6700. Last edited by ran-o-matic; 03-26-2008 at 01:20 PM. Reason: Corrected error |
