I live in PHX too and wondered this as well. However, if you ever travel outside of MST and want to update your clock to the new timezone while you are out of town (something I frequently do) you will need this patch.

It doesn't create any problem by having it so the more appropriate question is not why add it but why not.

In this case it's better to have it done so you'll never have to worry about it.

All future roms from manufacturers and/or sp's will incorporate the fix.
