PPC 6700 and a Magnetic Case

I noticed something weird this morning. I was fooling around with my friend's new Blackberry 8800 with the OEM leather case and when I held the case up to my 6700 the screen turned on. I repeated this several times to make sure I wasn't pressing a button on my 6700. I'm assuming this has something to do with the magnet in the Blackberry case which turns off the blackberry's screen. I don't have the OEM case from Sprint for the 6700 to try this out but does the 6700 have a similar feature when it is placed in the OEM case?

Thanks
Nick

Re: PPC 6700 and a Magnetic Case

I had the stock case for my 6700 and it never turned off due to putting it the case. Sometimes I would take it out and it would be on because I hit the power button on something.

Re: PPC 6700 and a Magnetic Case

Remember that the switch that tells the phone if the slider is open or closed is a magnetic switch. If you trigger that switch with a magnet, it will wake the phone, just like sliding it open will.

The side note is, that when "we" (old timers) first discovered this, in the first few weeks that the 6700 was available, some people found that not every magnetic case would trip the switch. I have one that I don't use often, that absolutely will not wake the phone, no matter where I place the magnet. Strength, polarity... who knows.
