I used MemMaid to kill the pmsnserver.exe and it hasn't started again. What starts the server and how often I have soft reset and even open PMSN and still hasn't started again. So I guess you could just use MemMaid to kill the exe.

Anything else we can shut off to help with battery life?

Also I don't have that reg value for msn in the folder mentioned in the first post on my ppc-6700. Why is that?

The correct way to do this is to install this freeware app

http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=...5027#msg-15027

Run it and select the "Services" tab and set pmsnserver to disabled.

Just like disabling a service in Windows. Hotmail and MSN messenger or Live messenger will all be effected and will no longer work. If you have problems, just reset the service to "Automatic" Voila! Easy and no reg hacking.

I did the reg edit at first and then I changed them all back when you posted this link. After a few soft resets I do not have pmsnserver as a service on the services tab.... odd.......

I forgot to mention that the service only gets installed if you have ever signed into Pocket MSN Messenger. Once you sign in, the service will get installed and set to run automatically. If you have never signed in, you won't have the service and you are not effected by this draining your battery.

If you upgrade to the live messenger, the pmsnserver service is replaced with the "live" service, which will also drain your battery and is forever stuck in "starting" mode.

Anyone notice that pmsnserver shows up as a process after you receive a text message?

Paul-

I have never ran pocket msn, so it does not show up as a service. However, pmsnserver still shows up as a process when I get a text message. Are you saying that you don't think pmsnserver.exe will have any effect on my battery life, because I have never run pocket msn?

I noticed it showed up randomly - no idea why. I didn't have it as a service, and my original regedit still seems to have totally prevented it from happening anymore - much to the joy of my battery...

No matter how you kill it, you should kill pmsnserver so it never starts, unless you use it. Just kill it and run a few days, and see how that helps your battery.

I made the change in this one:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{244AC8F5-7137-4ab7-8574-1CD93C0F8E8D}\InprocServer32]
@="pMSNShared.dll"
"ThreadingModel"="Free"

However, when I get a text message, pmsnserver is still appearing as a process.

Did I make the change to the wrong registry file? Can you look at Madmax's list on the 1st page of this thread and tell me which one you edited. Thanks
