Won't turn on unless plugged in charger

This has happened a few times where my Sprint version PPC6700 won't turn on unless it is plugged into the charger. The scenario is it sits on the charger all night. I take it off. I use it a few times with no problems. An hour later, I go to use it. It acts as if it has a dead battery (no blinky LEDs). I try a soft reset and also removing the battery, but no luck. I plug in the charger via the mini-usb port. Now I can turn it on with the button on top. I immediately take it off the charger. I check the battery and it still shows full.

I am using Hemi_C AKU 3.5 ROM. (ROM version shows 2.11.20 WWE, with a date of 04/04/06) Radio version shows 1.27.00.

Any ideas? Is this a hardware issue? I've had the phone for less than 1 year (bought through Sprint SERO).

Thanks in advance.

Not being one of this sites many gurus this is just my opinion. I would flash to the official Sprint rom and if it still has same problem, return phone to a Sprint store or call customer service and get a new phone.

Excellent advise. When you're done with stock, flash to WM6. Those old roms have a number of odd problems (your problem sounds a little more odd than most, however).

Have you tried replacing the battery? Seriously, thats sounds like the issue in my opinion. Think about it, you can charge it and it works for a short duration but then goes completely dead and when you place it back on the charger you can power it back on again. Your assumption that because when you take it off the charger it shows full battery means nothing. There is a BIG difference from the battery having full voltage (showing a full battery meter bar) and full amperage (being able to actually power and use the device for X amount of time).

I really do not see it being a ROM issue. If the battery contact pins were no good then you never would be able to charge the phone and much lass turn it on while on the charger because the battery has to be in the phone (ie making contact with the pins to main board) to turn it on.

Sounds like a battery that doesn't hold a charge. You can probably find a replacement on ebay for a reasonable price.

Thanks all for the responses. It does sound like a possible battery not holding charge issue, except when I don't have this problem, the phone still lasts for over 20+ hours on "full charge". If it were a battery issue, I would think that it would consistantly not hold a charge.
