err I hope the phone isn't bricked...

Yesterday (since this post) my friend handed me the phone, and apparently it was one the whole day, stuck on the Sprint splash screen... I had no knowledge of this device as of that moment but now I'm pretty clear on what it is. I don't know what a bricked phone looks like, BUT I'm pretty sure this is close. as soon as I got home I googled what I saw on the screen, it said the logo, then after a reset, it showed that followed by red text in bold that has numbers and letters, I can't remember now but I tried to downgrade the bootloader... without success, but before that I called Sprint and asked how I could get it into a "recovery mode". after an hour on the phone and downloading, I tried to reflash it. No success. I tried again without the help. still nothing. I tried one the WM6.0 Upgrade.. still the same thing... I don't know if the phone is bricked but I hope not, because he gave me that phone knowing I would be able to fix it... I'd like to use it really its a nice peace of hardware... I just hope its fixable.
oh and the bootloader is 2.02, i didnt try to downgrade that, but somehow I got stuck there

Exclamation nothing.

the same thing, it attempts to boot then the red text comes up and doesn't do anything else. but I think possibly since I know a bit about this device now to know it may be the bootloader. it says 2.02 which also I should stay with, but the phone won't boot at all. I think I read there is a program that makes a special bootsector on a memory card? kind of like the magic memory stick for the psp? is there a way to actually get this phone to boot? please I need help...

Put the phone into bootloader mode (Power, Record, reset).

Download the latest Sprint rom from www.utstarcom.com

run the update software.

Wait

Hard reset and hope it works
