How to uninstall programs properly?

Hi,
I am trying to uninstall a bunch of programs from my PPC6700, in the hopes to reinstall fresh copies at a different location. Tried to uninstall from WMDC in Vista, and also tried to do this from Today->Settings->System->Removeprograms and seems like I am still seeing the icons in my Programs window... Any thing I can do via Registry or somewhere else to clean this up manually?

Any help is much appreciated.
somu.

P.S. if I upgrade to the WM6 versions available here, how can I get back my WM5 if it doesn't work out for me? I am with Sprint.

Which programs are you trying to remove? If you are trying to remove programs and aren't seeing them listed in Remove Programs, then they may have come prepackaged either with Windows Mobile or with the Sprint customizations (stored on the extended ROM.) If you are trying to remove programs that were added during the Sprint customizations, you have a couple of options:

1) Use the following guide to remove those apps. There are "hard reset" and "no hard reset required" options: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=314
2) Upgrade your phone to WM6 (highly recommended) using Helmi's WM6 kitchen. The n00b guide is here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=14818 and the kitchen is here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11074

If you removed programs using the "Remove Program" app, and the icons are still showing in Programs, what happens when you tap the icon? If you get an error, then just manually delete the shortcut found in Windows\Start Menu\Programs

To get back to the stock Sprint ROM, download it, put your phone in bootloader (power-rec-soft reset) and run the exe: http://www.utstar.com/pcd/phone_down...arrier=Sprint#

Question Re: How to uninstall programs properly?

Just new to this but haven't found these answers yet without trying my 2nd time in kitchen.

Is there a way to uninstall programs cooked in the kitchen? Do I have to just start over in the kitchen every time I want to add or remove a program? And does this mean I need to erase everything to have room?

Is there a way to build a cab of built kitchen to put in extrom for hard reset, in case of emergency?

TIA for any help.

Re: How to uninstall programs properly?

If you checked programs in the kitchen, they are cooked in your ROM (=Read Only Memory). So no you can't remove them, you have to cook another ROM and reflash. You don't have to erase anything, the ROM will update automatically. You can make OEMs but why not just keep your program cabs on miniSD for emergency. You should always have a backup of your contacts (PIM backup) on your mini.

Oh and another thing, if your ROM is working to your satisfaction, the extraneous programs aren't really hurting anything, e.g. you can't use the space for anything but the ROM and can't use it for program space. If you want different kitchen supplied programs, then yes, reflash.

Thanks for your courtesy.
So I just have to go back to build kitchen..put programs I want like I am starting over and It knows a previous kitchen is there and will replace with whole new setup. This takes a long time, or will it just know to replace programs not 6.1 again???

i use a backup that can store 'all data' or just 'PIM' backup (High Tech 3.1) to mini sd but dont know if it works well and if it restores "all Data" to original without missing hidden files. It does work with PIM so far.

This came in handy since 4.5 activesync will not let me sync contacts (6.1 WM and 2003 outlook) so I think I will try 4.0...

Thanks

To clarify your terminology, the kitchen (=BuildOS) is the software to create (cook = check the desired programs) the ROM. The ROM is what resides on the phone and contains the WM and carrier specific stuff. So yes, the cooked ROM will replace the current ROM.

Should take as long as your last flash. Remember that it is read only and no file writing/rewriting occurs.

Most ppl here use PIM Backup and I think it is in the kitchen. Here's a link:

But whatever works for u is fine.

There is a Windows Mobile forum here to troubleshoot AS problems:
http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsM...1762&SiteID=65
AS 4.5 should work. Try unchecking/rechecking sync options on the PC and 6700.
