I just asked colonel that question and will be able to update once i get an answer. This is in regards to his custom rom, not sure about others.

if you are having a problem updating to 20226, make sure you delete the previous install of ppst from the last manual update. then run this new cab and voila you are updated to 20226!

20226 and 20227

I originally have 20224. First tried ##775# method with msl and the 20226 prl. Updating process was smooth, and after reset, 20226 shows up in device information, but when forced roaming and tried to connect, the phone gives error "data roaming not allowed".

Then I tried the cab and ppst method. Voila...able to connect at 1x. Did not try forcing evdo.

Afer re-flashing rom (necessitated by other tasks), I got 20224 back again. The got the 20227 over the air with the *2 method. Again, after reset, 20227 shows up in device information, but when forced roaming and tried to connect, the phone gives error "data roaming not allowed".

Used the cab and ppst to get back to 20226, which allowed the phone to connect. Then I used the ##775# method to update to 20227. 1x connection is good. But when forced EVDO, the phone shwos EVDO icon and signal, but gives the error about wrong user name or password when trying to connect. 20227 supposedly gives EVDO roaming capability.

I suspect that the cab and ppst method does something other methods don't do. Any success with EVDO roaming with 20227? What update method was used?

No the whole point of this post is to be able to update your prl manually instead of having to have Sprint do it. You HAVE to have the MSL code....That is the passcode you need to get into the part of your phone where you can change the prl.

You only need to call Sprint once to get this code. Then store the code somewhere safe and everytime a new PRL comes out you change it on your phone using the steps that I listed.

I am not too sure about that NinjaMom, i have reflashed my phone and several others and never once have i ever used the MSL code to update the prl. ( i dont even know my MSL code). To update my prl, I use the following steps.
1. install the 20225 cab
2. go to the windows folder and look for ppst.exe
3. click on ppst.exe ( the phone will either freeze and/or the phone radio will turn of, depending on what AKU you have, time will also hang)
4. you will know it is complete cos the time will change to correct time or just wait about 3-5 minutes. (it really only takes 2 minutes)
5. soft reset and voila you should have the updated prl

If those steps dont work for you, I dont know what else will

I dont have the ppst.exe...Im using the MARIO rom...

well ninjamom it seems to be working for me and i figured that out on my own. its very simple one can edit the settings in the ##778# menu and under prl just point the browse to the file reset and bingo and yes of course you need your msl which sprint gave me when i asked

anyone can make the 20227 as a cab?????????

andason 04-07-2007 11:55 PM

If you installed the .cab at the beggining of this post, just download this 20227 and rename 20227.prl to 20224.prl, drop it in the ppc windows directory. Then just click on the ppst.exe in the ppc windows directory to update. Soft reset after about a minute or so.

It would be nice if someone could find/maintain a list of general areas effected by each prl update.

For example - If 20227 is updating only for the area of Alaska then why bother doing it when you have no likelihood of going there anytime soon.

Also it would be nice to know if my area is updated to see if my EVDO reception improves.

Just would like to take out the guess work.
It's slightly annoying hearing people talk about how their reception improved after the last update when chances are somewhat against it and it's not worth explaining.
