Sprint PRL Update 20226 CAB (PRL Manual Update Hack)

2 Attachment(s)
Updated from 20225 to 20226

Instructions:
  • 1. Download and Install to the Device
    2. After the install browse to \Windows and find PPST.exe
    3. Run PPST.exe and wait (not sure how long... a minute?), phone will say "no service" ... Don't worry this is normal.
    4. Softreset
    5. Start -> Settings -> System -> Device Information
    6. Confirm new PRL 20226
Warranty... None... It worked for me... But I'll try and help if I can.

Be sure to add this to your Ext Rom and update the Config.txt appropriatly (I change the name so it better reflexts the update).

This hack is based on PPST_FILE_SPCS_1_19_003_with_PRL20224.sa.CAB from the Extended ROM of the latest "Official" Sprint Update. I forgot where I got the PRL file it's self though. The only way to tell the difference is the CRC. Because I don't know exactly how PPST.exe works, I just renamed the PRL to 20224.prl and replaced it within the CAB.

Good Luck,
MadManX

MadManX 01-03-2007 05:28 PM

Glad ya like Mike. Yeah I hate calling support too and I nuke my phone every couple weeks. So it was kinda inconvienient.

As for how this update works... Renaming the file worked because I belive something is stored in Default.ppst that definds what PPST.exe is supposed to do.

After reading a bunch of this post from http://ppc6700users.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3479 I took a guess at renaming the file and "poof" it worked. And of course I tried to edit everything to be 20225.prl first... Just updated me to 20224.prl again.

Only part I was wondering... Is what happends if I remove the files in the CAB from the \Windows directory afterward... New adventure? ... Thats about 300kb of savings. Just not sure if those files are ever used again though.

Anyways glad you like. I already added it to my Ext ROM (which is very leaned out right now for Benchmarking your work on the AKU).

The .prl file can be removed from the device. The PRL gets saved into FLASH ROM when you run PPST.exe It is actually entered into the firmware, which is why it is not easy to just find and copy .prl files from one device to another, they are all stored in special memory to ensure the radio can alway access it no matter how bad you screw up the OS.

Just to be sure, i am supposed to replace the PPST_FILE_SPCS_1_19_003_with_PRL20224.sa.CAB in the extended rom with yours (also making sure i rename it to wat i am replacing)?

jamesus 01-11-2007 12:39 PM

Not sure how long this page will be up, but here is a link for PRLs. Maybe you could leverage this with your program!

You just about have it. Yes... Delete the 20224 one and replace it with mine. The missiing step. Be sure to edit your Config.txt to reflect the file name change.

Or... Just rename my cab to the original file and replace it. No need to change the Config.txt. I named it differently so I could tell all my CABS apart (I hack the crap out of the stock stuff... Man I'm getting good at Hard Resets).

Awsome link... This isn't my program, just a mod of something Sprint made HTC do to allow the Ring Through Fix without providing us the MSL codes.

But... If this page is current, next PRL release I can update this cab and resubmit it for you guys.

Thanks for the find.

I did have that in mind, just wanted to be 100% sure. Thanks again. I am 2 hard resets from becoming a professional. :D

naigaboy 01-12-2007 01:31 AM

I have done it twice on 2 different phones and i have to admit great success all 4 times. Thanks again MadManX for your help. BTW the cpy still didnt work. Not worried bout it though.

I am a professional now. :D

MadManX 01-12-2007 10:54 AM

naigaboy, sorry the CPY didn't work. I stole that straight out of a Stock Ext ROM. I don't know if you can copy things from a Storage card though.

But... Have you tryed Mort's MortoScript. I personally haven't yet, but I've been looking into it. In theory you should beable to install it first in the Config.txt and Execuce it. I think you have to make thier autopay stuff since I don't think you can pass parameters in the Config.txt. It's all in thier docs though.

Here is there site http://www.sto-helit.de/modules/edito/content.php?id=38 and a working download link here http://trials2.pocketgear.com/downlo...oduct_id=13738 and I think you can UPX this down to a tiny install (if you want to test mine PM me... I haven't tested it yet).

Ok, I need just a headcheck here...

In this topic: http://ppcgeeks.com/sprint-onlyppc-6...+firmware.html

Is a PPST.exe (ie, a rado firmware updater??) that was the unoffical ringthru hack fix. That's the radio (with the PRL 225 update) that I am running even now, post AKU3.3 update.

Now *THIS* cab also has PPST in it, from the latest Sprint Rom, so if I just want to update the radio (and get the latest PRL) this would do that?

Let's find out (can't hurt anything, right???) :D

Pre-install Phone->Device Information:
PRL: 20225
PRI: 1.18_003
Radio Version: 1.12
Post - install, soft reset...
Hmmm unchanged.
Actually, install seemd to do nothing.

Ok so this begs the question - is there a way to update the Radio (mine seems "old") without doing a hard reset (ie, without installing latest sprint update and then the 3.3 rom again, hard reset, re-install everthing, sigh.....

Edit: I am an idoit - read first post fool! Anyway, I actually RAN ppst.exe now, and I have:

Radio version: 1.12.00 (no chage!)
PRL: 20225 (no change)
PRI: 1.19_003 (ah, some change!)

So this does change PRL/PRI but does nothing to Radio. Any idea how to update Radio?

Alwaysbelieve1 01-21-2007 03:45 PM

Update Radio go here:

http://ppcgeeks.com/viewtopic,t,2199.html

Alwaysbelieve1 01-21-2007 03:53 PM

So doing this updates the phone to PRL 20225 or 20224? I am confused by all the naming and changing, etc.

I already have PRL 20225, but simply want to do this in order to update my PRI to the newest grade.

schettj 01-21-2007 04:06 PM

it will re-do 225 (I did it, it did that ;) ) and move PRI to 1.19

That's what it does- improve roaming and signal pickups from towers whenever they update their towers or add new ones.

We are trying to update our PRI not our PRL at this time. I am not sure what PRI does though. That is something I would love to know. :)

Alright thanx. 8)

MadManX 01-22-2007 02:05 PM

Just a note... This is for the PRL (perfered roaming list) only. It will (or should) enable ring through as well (this is a side effect).

This does not update the Radio or the PRI. There is a different CAB (on the Ext by default) that updates the PRI and you have to flash a different Radio.

Hope this clarifies things.

This updated my PRI. I flashed my radio right before it and the PRI was unchanged. I then applied this cab and all was good with the PRI. :)

MadManX,
i followed your first post and everything updated perfectly for me. 8)
thanxs

veroi 01-22-2007 08:54 PM

PRL

Madmanx; I followed your steps but nothing happen my PRL remains at 20224 on a Radio version of 1.27.00

Lord Bricks 02-06-2007 12:23 AM

thanks for this essential update!

dannzeman 02-06-2007 12:41 PM

For some reason I can't get this to work. Here's exactly what I did
1. Downloaded to my computer, then transfered to 6700 to the storage card.
2. Installed to device.
3. Went to Windows\ and found PPST.exe and ran it.
4. I waited until I had no service (only a few seconds)
5. Soft reset, went to Settings/System/Device Information, still have PRL 20224.

What did I do wrong?

NinjaMom 02-06-2007 01:33 PM

Ok, Here is how I do it...

1) Download the PRL file to your storage card.
2) Go to you phone and type in ##775#
3) Enter your MSL # ((You can call sprint's customer service and ask for it--Just tell them you want to reprogram your phone and specificially ask for the MSL code. It will be a 6 digit code.))
4)Browse to where the file is located on your storage card
5)Select and hit ok

dannzeman 02-06-2007 01:57 PM

I guess I can do it that way but I wanted to try it without having to deal with customer service. There's 30 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

I don't think you can do it any other way. You have to have the code to be to get where you need to be.

Plus... Once you get the MSL code you never have to call them back for it again....Just make sure you keep it in a secure place.

dannzeman 02-07-2007 01:56 PM

I thought the whole point of this thread was to be able to update your prl without having to call customer service and get your msl. At least that's what it sounds like on the first post. someone please let me know if I'm wrong.

No the whole point of this post is to be able to update your prl manually instead of having to have Sprint do it. You HAVE to have the MSL code....That is the passcode you need to get into the part of your phone where you can change the prl.

You only need to call Sprint once to get this code. Then store the code somewhere safe and everytime a new PRL comes out you change it on your phone using the steps that I listed.

I am not too sure about that NinjaMom, i have reflashed my phone and several others and never once have i ever used the MSL code to update the prl. ( i dont even know my MSL code). To update my prl, I use the following steps.
1. install the 20225 cab
2. go to the windows folder and look for ppst.exe
3. click on ppst.exe ( the phone will either freeze and/or the phone radio will turn of, depending on what AKU you have, time will also hang)
4. you will know it is complete cos the time will change to correct time or just wait about 3-5 minutes. (it really only takes 2 minutes)
5. soft reset and voila you should have the updated prl

If those steps dont work for you, I dont know what else will

dannzeman 02-07-2007 04:37 PM

Thank you naigaboy. If you read the very first post NinjaMom it says:

So I'm pretty sure he didn't use his MSL. I tried it again making sure to wait a few minutes before resetting. I guess I only waited 30 seconds or so before I reset last time and I finally got it to work. Thanks for the help.

NinjaMom 02-07-2007 07:22 PM

Well. I stand corrected.

However, keeping up with the msl code and just updating the prl that way is a lot easier (to me)....and takes out the guess work.

MadManX 02-08-2007 03:09 PM

Hey... I just left this cab in my Ext ROM and after each nuke I'm back to 20225. And when the next PRL is avalible, as soon as I get my hands on it I'll update this CAB.

Just use the default config.txt and rename the CAB install that is very first (basically change the end from 20224 to 20225, I did this so I could tell them apart). And leave the PPST.exe command in there. Hard reset and you're good, just like if Sprint did it for you.

Oh... I did end up finally finding my MSL for one of my phones. But both are current :D
