Sprint PRL Update 20226 CAB (PRL Manual Update Hack)

2 Attachment(s)
Updated from 20225 to 20226

Instructions:
  • 1. Download and Install to the Device
    2. After the install browse to \Windows and find PPST.exe
    3. Run PPST.exe and wait (not sure how long... a minute?), phone will say "no service" ... Don't worry this is normal.
    4. Softreset
    5. Start -> Settings -> System -> Device Information
    6. Confirm new PRL 20226
Warranty... None... It worked for me... But I'll try and help if I can.

Be sure to add this to your Ext Rom and update the Config.txt appropriatly (I change the name so it better reflexts the update).

This hack is based on PPST_FILE_SPCS_1_19_003_with_PRL20224.sa.CAB from the Extended ROM of the latest "Official" Sprint Update. I forgot where I got the PRL file it's self though. The only way to tell the difference is the CRC. Because I don't know exactly how PPST.exe works, I just renamed the PRL to 20224.prl and replaced it within the CAB.

Good Luck,
MadManX

Glad ya like Mike. Yeah I hate calling support too and I nuke my phone every couple weeks. So it was kinda inconvienient.

As for how this update works... Renaming the file worked because I belive something is stored in Default.ppst that definds what PPST.exe is supposed to do.

After reading a bunch of this post from http://ppc6700users.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3479 I took a guess at renaming the file and "poof" it worked. And of course I tried to edit everything to be 20225.prl first... Just updated me to 20224.prl again.

Only part I was wondering... Is what happends if I remove the files in the CAB from the \Windows directory afterward... New adventure? ... Thats about 300kb of savings. Just not sure if those files are ever used again though.

Anyways glad you like. I already added it to my Ext ROM (which is very leaned out right now for Benchmarking your work on the AKU).

The .prl file can be removed from the device. The PRL gets saved into FLASH ROM when you run PPST.exe It is actually entered into the firmware, which is why it is not easy to just find and copy .prl files from one device to another, they are all stored in special memory to ensure the radio can alway access it no matter how bad you screw up the OS.

Just to be sure, i am supposed to replace the PPST_FILE_SPCS_1_19_003_with_PRL20224.sa.CAB in the extended rom with yours (also making sure i rename it to wat i am replacing)?
