Non-functional keys

Hello,

I got an xv6700 for cheap and, not surprisingly, some of the keys on the keyboard are either nonfunctional or close to it. Some keys seem like they don't work, but if I push hard enough, they do work. Others don't work at all, no matter how hard that I push.

My question is: does anyone have any experience with removing keys to clean under them? This has always solved problems like this in the past on other devices that have keyboards. If I just pop a key off, will I be able to pop it back on?

Re: Non-functional keys

I would definitely say no, as they seem to be permanently attached on all htc devices. I can't say for sure though...

Re: Non-functional keys

i just started having this problem too....first it was the 'a', then a bunch of other letters and now the space bar. i started using pocketcm keyboard tho and i love that. but with the keys breaking, is that a reason sprint would replace my 6700? i'm trying to figure out if i should do it now or when the diamond comes out.

if you have the $7/mo warranty plan they will almost certainly replace it - possibly with a 6800. I'm not sure why you would wait for the diamond because they definitely won't give you one of those as a replacement until the 6800 has been retired for a long time....

Re: Non-functional keys

You can also buy a replacement keypad or buy another phone off ebay (cracked screen on bad ESN) and swap it out. It can be done easily.

Re: Non-functional keys

first and foremost, 6.1 means nothing because you gain nothing substantial from it. A kb can easily be replaced by buying it as a stand-a-lone item or buying a device with a bad ESN or LCD. So the repair cost is very small. The 67 (IMO) still has a few advantages over the 68 such as the ability to OC although Im sure someone will OC the 68 soon enough. But then the 68 can do 'somewhat' GPS and more RAM.

But if it were me and I were trying to decide between the 67 & 68, I would wait for the Diamond like you said above. The 68 is good news for those of us who have had the 67 for a long time but with newer devices soon to be released, all you will be is mad if you get a 68 and then a few weeks later something else comes out.
