WMWifiRouter and sprint questions

Hello, i purchased my phone about a year and a half ago and the sales rep specifically used that i could hook it to a computer for internet access for no additional charge as a selling point of the phone. Before i knew what i was doing it was a pain to get it working but i did. 1 year later i walk into the store and i was told that to do it would be an additional 40 dollar charge a month for doing that, I didnt give them my name or number and just turned around and walked out. I fell scammed by this and additionally when i talked to another rep about this she was like i promise you the sales rep never said that. And my only response was i promise you, you weren't there and you have no clue how the sales rep sold me this thing so don't promise me something you have no clue on. Anyways long story short i heard there are some tweaks make it more hard to have sprint detect you are using something like WMWifiRouter, is this true? Also since my plan is "unlimited data" how much should i stay under. I mean i used to stream music to my phone from my PC all the time. I have no clue how much i used and don't care. But if i am trying to be cautious what should i stay under. God i hate living my life in fear especially on there sales rep misleading information. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks
JustusIV

Yep the sales rep suckered you with that line.....my friend is with Tmobile....same thing happened....I told her NO WAY could you do that for "Free"...it is a charge...and it called "Phone as Modem"...now granted...you can use programs to do this....but at the end....the carriers will always find out when you are cheating the system....I would say keep it cool on the usage and dont get to crazy...

I also have an "unlimited vision plan" and use WMWiFRouter....and only use it when I have to, but I try to keep it short, but with the 67 alone I dont care how long it is on the network.

Dont know what "Carrier" you have but with Sprint...they will cut you off..with no questions asked...if it known that the user is cheating and eating up alot of bandwidth.

Verizon will also dump you for excessive use. For reference, Verizon has said that typical data volume for the approved uses is around 0.25 GB/mo (~8.3 MB/day). The supposed upper limit - above which you get dumped - has been ~5 GB/mo (~166 MB/day). This number is not written down contractually, and you can expect it to change depending on the overall stress on the network. (Note: I got the numbers from Wikipedia a few months ago - so YMMV.)

Right now, ICS via USB on the mogul to my linux box is saving my butt - they're working on my DSL/Phone line, yet I am still online - woohoo!

Bottom line, like everyone else says
* PAM plan is only legal way to do it
* Sprint probably a wee bit safer then VZ for casual PAM use with data plan but without PAM plan, but in either case...
* DON'T GO CRAZY WITH IT

There goes another 2kb of data use

I am a little disappointed in the answers to this. I am half tempted to see what actions i can take against this. Mainly spending 450 on a phone and 120 on my plan for the last 2 years. Because a salesman blatantly misrepresented what i was actually getting. I work at a college and the college of law is the next building over maybe i should swing by.

Use it and forget about it. I've used my phone as a modem for over a year and my bill is the same every month, no matter how much data I use. I'm on Sprint.

They'll tell you it does not matter a furry rodent's behind what a salesman verbally tells you, if you have signed a contract and the terms of the contract spell out what you can and cannot do (or, if the contract has a line saying you agree to terms outlined elsewhere, sign here _________) - which indeed you have done, if you are on sprint, then hey presto you are bound by the terms of the agreement.

Salespeople lie, misrepresent, or just plain don't know their ass from their elbow in every area from diswashers to cars to cell phone plans. You might be able to sue the salesperson, but since they were making crap wages in a high churn crap job anyway, I doubt you will win anything

Just use it and don't worry, or buy the PAM plan and use it and don't worry. But the key is, don't worry.
