issues after installing wm6

i followed all the instructions to install wm6 from the update sticky. i'm completely new at this but with a little luck i finally got the install to update. i'm having 2 issues right now....

1)neither of the two (actually 4 if you include the 2 on the keyboard) soft keys are working
2) i can only access contacts through my phone program...tapping contacts or going through the programs menu does nothing

any ideas? i really appreciate everyone's tips and advice...

as an update the soft keys are now working but no matter where i find the contacts program...when i click on it it does nothing and if i click it enough times it locks up the phone

digging a little into the file explorer i've found no evidence of the "contacts" file in existence. it doesn't even appear in the start menu. did i not select something in the kitchen that has somehow deleted the file that opens up the contacts program?

perhaps you never installed a contact manager when you cooked the rom. Try installing a contact manager like pocketCM or something. Because I use pocketCM and I didn't include a contact manager in the rom because the new one wasn't built into a oem yet so when I started the phone my right soft key was still mapped to the contacts which was not there. I had to map it to pocketCM to open it like contacts. However I used to put an older version in rom and I worked right off the bat with the right soft key going to pocketCM and everything. Try that hopefully that works.

This is where you can find it.

I'm having the same problem.
After cooking a ROM with Pocketcm, I decided I didn't like it and tried to cook another exact sam ROM without it.

The only thing is that my Contacts are gone. I'm not really sure if they are "gone" because it syncs but when I select contacts with the softkey or select it from the start menu, nothing comes up. When I bring up my phone and select contacts, again, nothing comes up.

It's frustrating. I just want my old contacts program back.

Since pocket outlook is built into WM6, I'm very skeptical that anyone's contact program is gone. It sounds to me like just a broken link. Using a good file explorer, go into /windows/start menu/programs and check the properties for contacts.lnk. The shortcut target should be "poutlook.exe contacts". Chances are this link was broken by uninstalling of an alternate contact manager that didn't have a complete uninstall routine. If there is no contacts.lnk, just create one.
[Edit: Also be sure to hard-reset after flashing your rom. Non-functioning contacts is a symptom of failing to do that.]

Yeah, I know it was still there since it sync'd OK... but I think I finally figured out the problem. The culprit seems to be HTC Duo Random Access. I forgot to unselect it when I burned my new ROM. I don't think it works on the 6700 or it needs some patch to work.

i fixed my issue by doing a recook. when i was having the problem earlier and selected "contacts" it was looking was a "randomaccess" file. i believe there is something in the kithcen related to this file and i just recooked without that program. i removed a number of other programs from the 2nd cook that either i didn't have the access codes for or just didn't like personally (res (sp?) file explorer and the s2u2 and a couple of others). if anyone wants a list of my 1st cook vs. the 2nd let me know and i'll post it.

now my phone works very well. a couple times it locks up and if i remove the sd card it will unlock but my phone did this with the 1g card so i couldn't expect any less with the 4g. i think this may be because i leave my created ringtones on the card instead of putting them in the windows/ringtone folder. oh well....i really like the new options with wm6 and how a lot of the "small" things i hated about the phone in the beginning have mostly disappeared.

i really just want a threaded text message utility but i guess so do a lot of other people. i had the palm and my wife has the iphone and it's very nice and leads to less accidental messages going to the wrong people.

anyhow...a guy at work turned me on to this site. there's a lot of info out there but once you site and read through it (a day and a half in my case) you can really get somewhere. thanks for all the software, instructions, suggestions, etc.
