Download Speeds on the Sprint 6700

I have noticed that when doing a speed test from Toast.net with EVDO, that I get approximately the same speed as others have mentioned which is 400-600 kbps.

Interestingly, if I disable the phone and hook the 6700 up to my PC's internet connection thru usb I get the same results. Although the very same pc will get about twice that speed, at about 1200kbps, on exactly the same test only moments later. Same thing happened in a WiFi hotspot. The laptop was about twice as fast. And on the 6700 I did indeed have the phone function turned off and the WiFi activated.

I have another PDA running Windows Mobile 2003 that has no phone, just a plain HP1945. It will get the same 400-600 speed when connected to the PC.

So knowing that the DSL connection is 1200+, does that mean that PDAs have a limiting factor, which does not let the speed get above 600kbps or so, even when directly connected to a PC running a higher speed internet connection?

they probably do have a limiting factor, so the battery does'nt get drained so fast or something.

This I have figured out aswell. I have a 6meg connection and only get about 1.5mb out of the 6700. On evdo, I get SAME speeds ranging from 200kbps - 12xxkbps as it it greatly varied. I wish not to have the limiting factor when using such a high speed connection.

the ppc just cannot handle that much thruput - even a wifi connection is going to crap out at about 1.5mbit - the limit is the device, not anything the carrier is doing.

With AKU3.3 WIFI I get 2,500 kbit/sec... some serious improvement there. AKU2.x always topped out around 1.5-1.7, so it's a noticable improvement.

Not to mention the USB connection is not USB 2.0 so it has about a 1.5mb limit in throughput as part of the USB standard not even the device itself. As for the EVDO and wifi that shouldn't have the same limit. As has been mentioned try AKU 3.3 as it does seem to have some throughput enhancements.
