WOW I GOT MY 8 gig and it WAS working.. but now its saying its unformatted.....

WOW I GOT MY 8 gig and it WAS working.. but now its saying its unformatted..... it works intermittently.... my phone will read the card fine sometimes and sometimes it wont read it at all and cause the phone to come to a totall halt.... im lost for ideas.... i dont want to format cuz then ill have to load everything i had all back on it and that could take litterally about 7 hours..... maybe more..... i know if i take it out and put it back in that it will eventually start to work but i want to know why it doesnt read it sometimes... i have a hunch that its a registry fix somewhere that has to do with a possible sdhc card powersaving mode or something.... maybe not enough amps are flowing to the card for it to save crucial information? anyone..... thoughts.....?

Since you bought the 8 gig version I believe it came with a normal SD adapter. Put it in the adapter and slip it into your computer. Format it on the PC and then put it back into your phone and see how you do.

A couple of caveats:

Make sure you loaded the SDHC drivers in your build.
Make sure you have KB923293 installed on your computer. This patch gives you the ability to read SDHC cards in a normal SD slot.

My 6 gig card worked fine once I had the SDHC drivers loaded into my build so I am not sure why your is giving you issues.

well... ill do that if you really think that will help... its just that id rather not because it took me litterally 7 hours to put all my stuff on the card.. and to take it all back off to format and then put it all back on would take a good part of the whole day.... shouldnt the sdhc card come preformatted?

The card does come preformatted. Ok first things first:

1) Your card came with a USB card reader. Plug the USB reader into your PC and put your 8 gig card in the SD adapter. See if the card is read by your PC.

2) If the card is not read by your PC please install the MS hotfix I am including in this post and reboot your PC. Then try to read your card in the USB reader again.

3) If your is read properly then your all set and just put it back into your phone. Check to see if your phone can read it. If not move to option 4.

4) Build a new ROM, making sure you pick the SDHC drivers. This will ensure you have the proper drivers to read the card.

Hope this helps.

Steve

Thanks for your help first and foremost..... right now it technically is working both in my phone and on my computer just like before... a hard reset seemed to fix whatever might have been causing the problem... I think a bug report might have to be filed regarding the HTC Audio Manager as I suspect that might have been the afflicting program.....

What 8GB card did you get? like name/brand? I was thinking of getting the Sandisk one. Anyone got this card and using it sucessfully?

Also I am using of of the C&S WM6 ROMs, so I'd need to install the SDHC drivers manually. Where exactly are these located? I have seen both the 777somthing.cab and sdhc.cab files floating around and was wondering what is the latest one and right one to use

I have a San Disk 8gb micro bought from verizon with the two adapters to make it an sd or a mini sd and i experience frequent problems... it doesnt like it when its full to about 6 or 7 gigs.. it starts getting buggy..... i wouldnt recommend buying it.... unless u get the HTC Titan or something....

I've got a 6 gig Sandisk, full to about 5.5 gigs. It's worked wonderfully.

However, it worked buggy when I ran an earlier version of the kitchen. The last two times I ran kitchen updates and made a new ROM - I've had zero problems.

If you still experience buggy behavior and you haven't created your ROM from the kitchen, I recommend you do so. I know the kitchen drivers have been updated regularly, including speed fixes to prevent music from skipping.
