Awesome, my gps charger charges my apache! Question

okay, so ive been going without a car charger for my apache forever.. and here lately battery power has been a slump... so the other night i thought about building a battery powered usb charger for the phone.. then i thought, we hmm i should just go ahead and buy a car lighter adapter with 2 usb ports on it, so i did for $8 total shipped on ebay.

then tonight i realized my holux gps car charger cable end fits the apache, plugged it up and, ding! i was on a charge.

even though the car charger adapter states a 5v out, it doesnt say anything about mah output. The lipo battery in the holux is 850mah i believe.. Could i do any damage to the apache?

No, if it's charging then that charger puts out at least 750ma, which is enough. The only thing to watch for is if the charger itself gets too hot. If it stays moderately warm, then you're cool. (damn I'm witty)

It'll charge regardless of what the output amperage is, and you don't need a 750mA rated charger.

The voltage on all USB connectors is +5, so you are safe in that respect. The worst that could happen is you'll stress your charger and shorten it's life (the heat test TonyDiv stated above works reasonably well in this regard).

Depends on how discharged your battery is, what you're doing w/ your apache, and what your charger will put out. When a battery is discharged, it'll suck a lot of (milli)amps. As it charges, it draws less (milli)amps...until it reaches full charge and minimal draw. Processor speed, backlight, sound, Irda, WiFi, Bluetooth, and Cellular services all increase power draw as well. Obviously if your charger won't put out enough to cover device needs, the battery won't charge at all (it'll be supplying the deficit).
