Is there a way to hide the bottom bar that shows the labels for the softkey on the Today Screen?

Some programs can do that, only one I know for sure is WisBar http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com
Buts its not free, try the trail one out.

There are also ways to do it without using WisbarAdvance3.

I did the below edit, but the notifications won't stop even after I've read or dismissed the message.

How can I stop the notification?

Ok, so let me absorb and regurgitate it for complete understanding. You turned the repeat on and when you get a msg you may not know it so it does repeat and then you realize it so you check it and dismiss it and then it keeps repeating? Is that right?

That is the problem with that hack, you can't turn of the notifications so it's garbage... I saw this program last week that might work http://freewareppc.com/utilities/notifyme.shtml I havn't tried it because I don't have a use for it but it might help you.
