Question Verizon Users: What use is the SIM slot - under the battery?

Good evening, fellow PPCGeeks.

It's not that I have nothing else better to muse about on this brisk Fall evening, here - in rural New England, but... I was just wondering... since we Verizon Wireless vx6700 customers are not using GSM and the SIM slot located under the battery port is obviously empty and devoid of any storage, communication or data card... what IS it good for... (as far as WE are concerned)?

I mean, like - can we install a tiny SIM card with our favorite CAB files... or can we use it as yet another back-up location...?

Just a thought.

More like a "wonder", really.

If we can't use it for a memory card... what CAN we use it for...? It's too small to store a spare house key - for example.

Any suggestions?

I think it is big enough to store a microSD card. You could get a micro-to-mini adapter and put it in your main slot. Then just use microSD SD cards instead of MiniSD cards. I think the microSD cards have similar capacities to the miniSD cards, so you wouldn't sacrifice much.

There was an excellent post about this about a month ago in this forum. This is a RUIM slot -- not very useful here with Bell Moblity, but really saving my life when I go on vacations to Russia -- no need to pay insane roaming fees, just buy a RUIM card and use it -- they are very popular there and carriers don't even charge you a setup fee. I hear the same applies if you travel to China.
