Because the phone is in bootloader mode. It will not communicate to activesync in bl mode. So you can flash the phone, radio or extended rom. this is the proper wat to flash the phone you are doing it right.
There is no way to turn it off. You would need a program that can turn the phone off. I cant remember any of them off hand but i know there are a few out there. You can try PSshutxp http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/psshutxp.shtml

You put the phone into bootloader in order to "flash" the new radio.
When you are flashing the phone, whether it be the radio or a rom, you do not transfer files to the phone. You need to use a program to flash it. If you're in bootloader, you will need to use APACUpgradeUt_noID.exe from the NoID_RUU folder in the kitchen.

gopher,
The only reason to connect your phone to the computer while in bootloader mode is to flash new "firmware" to the phone using the Rom Upgrade Utility, or "RUU", which is run from the PC. Firmware to be flashed can include: - the operating system (i.e. "the rom"), - the radio controller ("the radio"), - or the extra Carrier customizations ("the extended rom"). Flashing new firmware is very, very different from simply transferring files from your laptop to your phone. There are precise directions for flashing roms and radios all over this forum - read the stickies at the top for a start. Yes, when you connect in bootloader mode, a USB connection will be established, and the proper USB drivers will need to exist on the PC - those may have been included in the original activesync installation. Otherwise, the activesync application is not involved in flashing new firmware. By design, PPCs must always stay energized if they are to function properly with regard to appointments, alarms, and other "notifications". Pushing the power button to "turn off" the device just puts it into suspended/"sleep" mode, but the phone radio will continue to talk to the outside world unless you turn it off in the comm/wireless manager. Pressing "flight mode" will turn off all the wireless communications - obviously, that's what we use to "turn off" our devices before leaving the gate on an airplane. Closing all applications, engaging flight mode, and suspending the device with the power button is about the most "off" you can make it without removing batteries. |
