WM6 ROM sucks battery dry in calls???

Running Helmi rom which is super stable and I love it. Except that my batteries (stock and extended) run out in minutes when in calls. I can almost watch the battery drain. Checking email drains it to, although I do that occasionaly and do not leave wireless sync enabled.

Otherwise standby time is fine. Ran abcpowermeter and in calls running around 450-550 ma.

Any ideas? Tried different radio versions and no change.

Appreciate any help.

Tks.

I'm not sure about this, but I think your radio power will self-adjust depending on signal strength - that is your phone will use a lot less power if you are standing 100 feet from a tower versus 2 miles away. So maybe you are always in a very low-signal-strength area when you test. Obviously, you need to make sure your WiFi is off.
For comparison, my acbpowermeter displays 315-400 mA on a bluetooth call with 3 bars of signal strength (1X -74dbm), running radio 1.43. (306-340 mA with handset only, a bit more 25-45mA+ with speakerphone). I never tested my in-call power use on the 1.10 or 1.41 radios, but I think the 1.10 radio used more power overall.

Batteries running out in minutes? Even at 550 mA current draw, your 1350 mAh stock battery should last 2+ hours of talking. Sounds like your batteries might be old or below-spec. Might try some new (and good) batteries.

[Edit: I'm not running WM6 (3.5 kitchen custom), fwiw.]

I'm running the newest vg kitchen .6c and noticed my battery went down quick with light use yesterday. When I was on wm5 kitchen 1.04 with the same usage it lasted twice as long.

I'll watch it today and post back...

I thought my battery was just shot. I dont remember this problem with the original Helmi release of WM6. How many of you with the problem are also on 1.43 radio. I am not sure that this is not what is causing the problems.

Make sure you turn off "Beam". It is turned on by default with WM6. That will probably run the battery down faster.

it's not just calls. wifi drains battery faster then before as well as being on the 3g network and maybe even some today screen plugins and apps. i am on verizonguy's devl 4 of wm6 and the 1.10 radio. beam and bt are both always off. my today screen has batti, weatherToGo and TodayAgenda running. i got some perceived battery life back from taking off the treo700w-picture-speed-dial. i drive 1/2 hour to work and just listen to a podcast (already downloaded) in TCPMP and battery goes down half way (from fully charged). previously it only ate up 1/4 or less. calls also drain a lot of battery, a 20 min call last night drained 1/2 the battery. helmi's original wm6 was not this bad.

I'm on Robmayer's Helmi modi'd WM6 v4 for Sprint w/radio 1.41 and I've also noticed battery drain when on calls and using wifi. I do use BT a lot but I'm not sure that is it.
