I have the Audiovox xv6700/htc apache for verizon and do not have the data plan. I actually have the data block on. Verizon wil try and tell u to get a data plan but it is not required to have the phone. And if u look at PDAJunkies page he has a trick there to enable MMS messages without using data. Hope this helps

Nope, you only need Data if you have a TouchDiamond and TouchPro or newer phone.
The XV6900 Touch is the last HTC that doesnt require a data plan.
