Why does WM draw the dialpad so slow??

this is one thing thats always irked me about a windows mobile phone..
when you bring up the dialpad it draws it in really slow and checkerboard-like
i hated this with wm5, and its still apparent in wm6

is this something we have to deal with due to hardware, or is it something that can be alleviated through any reg tweaks??

I'm running WM5 on a XV6700 and I don't see what you see. It loads up in less than one second. Are you talking about that effect where it starts at the bottom and moves up?

It has an image to draw for each button, plus backdrop, plus smardial/status box, plus another dialpad backdrop on crossbow dialer. That plus a lot of today items, or other programs running will use up memory needed for all those images. It's a program, just like any other you run.

All takes about 2 seconds here, although you can see it drawing it's not a very long wait for the pretty visuals.
