It's not that people want a cooked rom vs the kitchen, it's that they want whatever is the least effort for a satisfactory result. My comment wasn't that pre-fab roms will go away, but that the mechanism of distributing pre-fab roms will become one of distributing config files for the kitchen instead of the actual ROM file - mainly because it won't be long before that's "the least effort" for both the rom-maker and the end-user. You'll still have pre-configed roms, you'll just find them in the kitchen instead of scouring the web.

It wasn't a moderator who said you had narrow vision, rxb216.

BTW, most kitchen users don't tweak the hell out of their device. I don't tweak my device at all. From the sounds of it, I've probably flashed my phone fewer times than you guys (I'm up to twice now - once to try some new apps, once to get rid of the ones I didn't like).

seems like the kirvin saga.

"person A" does something cool, "person B" decides to get panties in a wad, "person A" withdraws cool stuff, and community is hurt.

btw, i was really looking forward to the next release.

Sorry Rob - I wasn't trying to spam your thread. I made 2 posts before things got out of hand; the first wasn't received in the manner it was offered, and the other was an answer to a direct question about the kitchen. Sorry my humor in the first post hit a nerve.

Seang - you're right, it is like the Kirvin saga, but your analysis is wrong. It's: person A makes cool, revolutionary shit; person B re-releases person A's work; person C praises person B for bringing light to the world; person D points out it was A that brought light to the world; then group E and person B get their panties in a wad. Which is odd, because the people with the most interest in everyone playing nice are the group E people.

Anyway, Rob's right - this really is cluttering his thread, so if anyone wants to continue this, please start a new thread.

i thought so too, but its always interesting to hear how people bash gguru once he opens his mouth.

I've thanked Helmi each time he's updated the kitchen, which has been twice I think for WM6 at least. I've been continually thanking Rob on a weekly basis for helping me get my questions answered whatever they may be. Helmi will get another thank you on next kitchen rev, but no more praise than that.

If you like Rob's rom, you have every right to thank him...

Rob, by the way, let me know when you can extract the SDHC drivers from the 12/17 kitchen for me, I knew we chatted about this earlier (cab file is preferred)

I am new to this forum and PPC's, I am looking for information for the best way to back up my current PPC rom and update to the BEST WM6 Rom with as little amount of ram use as possible. I seem to have stumbled into an argument which makes it difficult for me to sort through the BS and find an accurate answer to my concerns and questions. Here are my concerns:\

1) I have been pointed to this forum and this Rob Mayers Helmi's WM6 from another forum. Through all my reading I know that HELMI created a wm6 for the xv6700. I know that a program called Kitchen was created by the members of this site. I know that a member called Rob Mayer made an stripped version of Helmi's WM6 for xv6700 using kitchen. These are facts.

2) I researched Helmi's wm6 and really want it but there are so many versions of I'm not sure where to go and which one to get. I researched Kitchen and feel it is above my IQ at the moment and don't want to brick my new phone before I get the chance to use it. I Heard of Rob Mayers stripped version and feel confident this is the route i want to go as I can add programs that I want.

3) Coming to this forum makes me scared to do anything. Use Kitchen...No!, it ok to use Robs.....Wait? No! Use Kitchen it is better..Stop! No? wait! Rob made Kitchen and He is Helmi!!!???? See where I'm going. Makes me confused on my confidence to make a decision based on my skill level. I already made a choice before I came to this site to research and use Robs Rom because it seems to be at my skill level at the moment. After reading through the countless pages of this forum, I feel frustrated and more confused and my confidence is getting lower and lower and that stinks. Now people may become Jaded toward me now because of what I am saying but at the moment I truly want to throw my phone in the garbage!! I am frustrated because my phone runs like junk, I need to update the software to make it run better, and I would like an Ifone interface so I don't have to use the stylus all the time.

3) just a suggestion, maybe if the moderators of software developers have an issue you could just IM or email you issues to one another and leave this forum clean. I say this because every time I find a forum that I need something from there seems to be a fight of some kind. As a result, every Tom, Dick, and Harry needs to comment on the issue (including myself) making it extremely difficult to find answers without sorting through fifteen hundred pages of fluff only to find your answer isn't there. To make matters worse, when I post that I need help with something, Moderators close my thread saying NO DOUBLE POSTS! forcing me to filter through all Fifteen hundred pages to find parts to my answer leaving me confused thus adding to the possibility to me bricking my phone....WHew! OK? please don kick me or flame me!

A) I need to find a way to back up my Verizon xv 6700, here is my
phone info: Bootloader version
v1.02
H/W=2 P SNAZ-40306
M=12 R 1.10.00
U=4 D 2.07.20 WWE

B) I would like to put WM6 on it ( I need to be able to put my origional FW
back on If I don't like the New FW, Thus need to find out how to back
up as I asked above)

C) I would like to run the eye fone software v4.0 i got off ebay

D) I realize I am a noob at this but I have a quicl learning curve. My AVIC
is modded as well as ipod and xboxs and pc running linux and vista, xp.
So I have experiences but I know I need to be cautious with this phone.
Thank you for listening to my rant and hope i didnt &iss anyone off.

Your facts are almost, but not quite correct - Rob's ROM isn't quite stripped.

Here are the rest of your answers:

1) to get the maximum amount of ram free possible, you have to use the kitchen.
2) to have a truly C&S ROM, you have to use the kitchen
3) the current version of the kitchen is stickied to the top of the forum, post #1 in it's thread, always. Rob's ROM is post #1 in this thread.
4) the difficulty level of both the Kitchen and Rob's rom will be about the same for you. Rob's ROM is easier for people who have never heard of .rar formats. You'll have a new rom on your phone a little sooner if you use Rob's ROM. The kitchen's strong suit is that it's customizable to You. You can't hardly go wrong with either choice, and you can always switch to the other at any time.
5) Double posting contributes to the clutter. Your post will be seen in just about any thread.
6) the stock verizon ROM is available on the verizon website. I think it might be newer than what's on your phone, however.
7) The risk of putting any CE ROM (a windows ROM) is the same. Anything is better than what you currently have. Do not use bootloader ROMs unless you really know what you're doing. Radio ROMs are usually not necessary and have a greater chance of bricking your phone. Rob's ROM and the kitchen are or make CE ROMs only.
Putting an AKU 3.3 or later ROM (from a carrier) on your phone will complicate further mods (because it includes a new bootloader).
9) If you want to backup your contact info, sync it via ActiveSync or back it up using PIMBackup.
10) If you want to backup your entire device, there are commercial software products for that. They do NOT backup up your ROM, however. Restoring a WM5 backup on to WM6 is a bad idea - reinstall your softare.
11) you'll have the same trouble or lack thereof with your iphone software regardless of what you choose. Slightly less if you have a totally stripped ROM from the kitchen.
12) The device is pretty solid...it's hard to brick with a CE ROM update.
13) Rob is definitely not Helmi, nor does he help make the kitchen.
14) Some items are best discussed publicly. PMs do happen when they're the appropriate choice.

15) Rob's ROM is currently a Helmi based ROM, so it's not like a kitchen based ROM or Rob's ROM are fundamentally different on your PPC.
