Funny story: I was having this problem constantly and decided to try the "disable weather" fix. I did and had been running constant for a good month or so, replacing batteries, with no freezing. I went to swap my battery the other day and though to myself, "man, that must have fixed it", and sure enough, it froze again.

All i went to do was a soft-reset, and nothing out of the ordinary, i soft reset here and there like everyone else does. Just this one time it screws me! argh!! I am going to try rob may's C&S build later today |

Yesterday I loaded the new v.4 vg kitchen and unselected the htc home plugin when building the rom (I don't need it and don't want to deal with the known issues). Just in case, I also made sure it was not enabled in the today screen config. All seemed good with the new ROM, but after configuring a few apps/reg tweaks I started experiencing it locking up at the windows mobile boot splash screen. Several soft rests didn't get it to load.
I then tried plugging it in to my USB sync cable and soft reset and it booted no problem (FYI, I don't sync with this PC and there is no partnership with the pc I connected it to). I disconnected usb and installed a few more apps, then soft reset and it locked again. I connected USB, soft reset, and it booted fine. Then, to make it more confusing, last night away from the USB cable (with fingers crossed) I soft rebooted yet again without the usb connected and it loaded fine. Strange...

Ok, seems it is still not right. I get it to boot more often than not with the USB connected, but it still locks sometimes even with usb/power connected. I also tried removing my 2gb sd card and it didn't help (but may have raised the chances of it booting). Most of the time it locks at the WM6 boot screen, but occasionally it gets to a partial today screen and then locks up. If I just keep hitting the soft reset button eventually it will boot.
Additional Notes: I deselected windows live and HTC home when building the kitchen. I don't see HTC in my list, but for some reason windows live is still in the programs folder (must be an issue with the kitchen). I am also running the following: pocket informant 2007, sbp mobile shell, spb phone tools, spb weather (as a plugin to sbp mobile shell showing on the today menu with automatic updates turned on), mohairsoft calendar+ (today plugin), handyswitcher 3.0, and a few other apps. All autostart or today apps are loaded to main memory (including ringtones, email storage, etc) and I have about 20mb free on reboot. Last edited by jspenc3; 10-24-2007 at 09:52 AM. |

Hmmmm, Try this:
You have a good backup program right? Get a good full backup of your device (and Extended Rom if you are using it.) Hard Reset and get the device to its default state. Then do it again... (I do it twice because it seems some data doesn't reset if you do it only once...) Now restore everything except the Database... See if the device works right now... (Warning, you will lose any settings made in the database before you started, but I think this is USUALLY minor stuff like alarms...) |
