I suppose since it's a codec and codecs are programs (despite popular belief) it's possible that even though its not running unless in use that a service proggy runs in the background to fire it up quicker and disabling it prevents the service from running. The 13kbs Vocode is going to sound better than a 8k EVRC one anyway & I don't see how it could make that much of a difference in performance of the ppc. Interseting its breaking your wmdc though - are you sure that's what's causing it?
