i tried it a while back, cdma wasn't up or anything, but like i said, it was a while back. there are a couple of different dev teams working on the apache, haven't followed it in a while though. anyone else tried it??

reckon i might want to add that what they had ported worked pretty decent.

Re: Is it all over?

One big reason that I wouldn't want to "upgrade" to a Mogul - is portable gaming. I use my 6700 to emulate old games almost daily. It requires a lot of processing power to emulate SNES and even GBA. For two reasons, that currently can't be done well on the Mogul:

1) Overclocking - Last I checked, there's no overclocking software currently available for the dual core processor of the Mogul. On emu gaming forums, mogul and even Tytan II owners have complained about the sluggish speed as a result.

2) Simultaneous Button Presses - There's a program written for the 6700 that allows you to press two buttons at the same time and have both register. The Tytan II does this natively. The Mogul, for some stupid reason, does not - and no one's yet written a program for it.

If I were to "upgrade" my 6700, I'd have to give up emu gaming until the gaps could be fixed. I'd also have to buy more accessories, I've already got a GPS unit. And according to reports, I'd have to put up with a lot more firmware bugs than we see from the 6700 WM6 kitchen.

So yes, perhaps I'm stupid - but right now I wouldn't trade my phone for free. On a thread on the main forum, someone else posted that they REJECTED a free trade and requested a refurb 6700 instead.

Yep. There's still plenty of life left in a 6700. At least another year, maybe 2.

Maybe even more. I'm loving The Colonel's 6.0 and look forward to 6.1
The fact of the matter is that 6.0 has made a real pleasure to have this phone, with its rock solid stability, and until there is an OS that the guru's here can't port over, I'm keeping my 6700 for quite some time.

I've been kicking around a 6800 upgrade thinking it would be nice to have integrated GPS but I heard the GPS in there is only AGPS and doesn't actually use satellites and determines position based on tower triangulation... this would do me no good in the oil fields where there is one tower in a 60 miles radius! does anyone know for sure?

I dont ever want to let go of my 6700 though! it has become the third lobe of my brain!

I have not checked for myself, so don't take this as gospel, but my co-worker claims his 6800 does indeed have true sat-based GPS, and works very accurately with his GPS software (TomTom & iGuidance).

I'm inclined to believe as I've read the Mogul has sat-based GPS. (but I'm confused as I've heard the 6800 referred to as the Mogul, and as the Titan.... which is it?!?!?).

Re: Is it all over?

It is all 3... HTC named it Titan, Verizon named it XV6800, and Sprint named it Mogul. As far as what GPS it has... it has aGPS. That DOES NOT MEAN no connection to satellite. It means it is assisted by the cell network to get a faster location, while still using satellite info when and where available.

Now back to the question that started this thread... is it all over? the answer is no, it is not 100% over for the apache as far as user development goes... had it not been for helmi c porting over wm6, then we wouldnt even be able to have that conversation... but since he did he extended the life of the apache a lil more... so in my estimation i'd say it's about 89-95% over for the apache... there does that sound fair? i put it at this number because as of late Colonel has been hinting at a possible wm6.1 update coming to you guys soon...but what is truly on the horizon for this phone after that? why dont you post your percentage of how much lifecycle has p***** in your replies...

The funny thing is, the ROM development cycle might be almost done for all the current WM6 devices, as I believe (I might be mis-remembering) a new type of touch screen (multi-touch?) will be needed for WM7...

Linux on Apache: I have booted it. It works pretty well. But development has stagnated. Needs some fresh blood I think. Apparently the wifi will work but doesn't out of the box for me. Of course regular phone doesn't work. It also won't charge apparently. but there are a ton of apps that seem well designed and suited to the small screen. I recommend you all try it out, all you need is a flash card. It doesn't destroy your wince. You just soft reset back to WM6.

which version did you try? i know it's being developed in a couple places. thought at least one of em had all but the cdma radio stack worked out.
