Re: Is it all over?
well my joystick died on my 6700 i have insurance form sprint and the replaced my 6700 for free with a ................ 6700 was i upset. nope not at all ive seen the 6800 and its not that i wouldent like rev a or unlockable gps but i like my 6700 as well and when my new (or refurbed) unit came in i flashed it up and lo and behold im back in love..
now if they had given me a 6800 would i say no... of course not but i would be nervous about wmwifirouter or teathering it. in my book the 6700 does what i want watch movies surf the net listen to mp3 has putty ssh and runs about anything i want. what more do i want? |
Re: Is it all over?
ok, you win guys... a brand new mogul is trash compared to a brand new apache, you've all made you points abundantly clear on that. ( i thought i asked you guys to be honest...)
Now back to the question that started this thread... is it all over? the answer is no, it is not 100% over for the apache as far as user development goes... had it not been for helmi c porting over wm6, then we wouldnt even be able to have that conversation... but since he did he extended the life of the apache a lil more... so in my estimation i'd say it's about 89-95% over for the apache... there does that sound fair? i put it at this number because as of late Colonel has been hinting at a possible wm6.1 update coming to you guys soon...but what is truly on the horizon for this phone after that? why dont you post your percentage of how much lifecycle has passed in your replies... |
Re: Is it all over?
As great as the WM6 updates are, I won't truly be happy until I can run linux on it. Until then, it will also be slow, and crash, and not do what I want it to do.
I will likely upgrade to an android phone. My 6700 is pretty beat up at this point. Right now though, there really isn't anything better than my 6700. |
Re: Is it all over?
I'll probably keep the apache until they give me a touch for free or until sprint comes out with a android phone with a big a$$ screen, great definition and a real gps. If that doesn't happen, I definitely won't pay money for a new wm phone until they come up with real improvements over the apache.

Re: Is it all over?
I wonder if we are actually going to see new models for PPC's with the slider keyboard. Everything seems to be going touch and soft keyboard which I personally don't like. They could make the 6700 slightly smaller in L & W and lose quite a bit in thickness - upgrade the guts and I'd buy it again.
They should probably improve the speaker :) |
Re: Is it all over?
Bottom line is, until Microsoft makes a major change to the phone OS, all new phones will basically be the same recycled stuff, just smaller (though how small can you go and be practical in terms of screen size) and some gimmicks (like touch interface, which I don't love that much anyhow).
While I love the 6700, my next phone will be linux based for unlimited modding. |
