gguru was very clear saying for the PRICE of the upgrade it is not worth it. You got it for free, so wow! You chose to accept a newer phone with gps and revA for free! Amazing. ](*,)

Sorry, maybe I sounded a little bit more aggressive than I intended, my whole point is, obviously almost anyone would take a newer and better phone for free. Specially if you did not have insurance and most likely would have to buy something in place of the broken 6700.

Re: Is it all over?

The only reason that someone would keep their 6700 over the 6800, that I could think of would be the need to re-purchase some accessories. And heck, if someone handed me a 6800 (for free), I wouldn't be too worried about having to come up with the 30+ for a new belt clip.

My Seidio clip is on it's last leg anyway.

The lack of a "must have" phone (like the 6700 was when it was release {got it the first day it was out;spent the month before trying to figure out how I could purchase as a corporate customer}) being out, is causing me to consider other options in order to get my portable computing fix (i.e. Asus EEE). Until something catches my eye (or if my 6700 gets injured) I won't be making a new purchase. I want to blow a fat load of cash on something that I don't really need (the great American way), but it just isn't available (to my chagrin).

Re: Is it all over?

The premise was that if you have a 6700, is it worth it to _buy_ a newer phone (titan/vogue/tilt). There was a time when the 6700 was more useful (because kitchens were not available titan/vogue/tilt), but that's no longer the case. Now its merely a case of are the present enhancements worth the cost, because you can do pretty much the same stuff on all of them. Anyone who still has their 6700 isn't likely to be too concerned w/ it's size, so I recommend doing what I did...wait until your 6700 needs parts and upgrade then.

Mind you i had NO expectation of them doing this but within 15 mins i was handed a brand new mogul in the box. It was the shock of my sprint experience! Now i loved my 6700 to death but do you think i was like "No please dont give me the mogul, i have everything i need in my apache, it still has quite a lifespan left in it!" Hex naw bro! i looked around suspiciously to make sure they werent filming an episode of punk'd on me and rolled out before they had the chance to realize they may have made some mistake in the system lol.

so again being honest with yourself, if you were handed a mogul, would you keep your apache?

well...I could get a new 6800 (or any device, at anytime,) paid for by my company, but I chose to keep my 6700:
1. it truly does everything I need to do at this point: good phone, email, skyfire browser, BT stereo stream to my car/home audio/headphones, gps...and continous enhancements from PPCGeeks community
2. like someone said earlier, got my accessories clip-ons and batteries
3. I grew comfortable with it:
- like the joystick
- like the joystick on the right side (as opposed to the left Dpad on the 6800)
- like the antenna stub: it actually helps me hold the device better
4. I have no contract at this point: can wait for real successor to come out (I know it's a moot point given that I can get a paid for, new device, at anytime...but hey, you never know where you'll be working in the future :) )

Had I got myself the 6800, I would have given my 6700 to my wife. Instead, I went to eBay and bought her a 6700 for $150. How's that for love, or stupidity some may say, of a device? :)

Didn't even consider others like the Samsung i760...anything that uses proprietary connectors, instead of common USB connector+charger, is a cardinal sin in my book.

Now, had an HTC Touch size device WITH sliding keyboard was actually introduced, I'd agree it's time to say goodbye to 6700. As of now, this is the best phone yet I've owned (previous PPC phones: Thera, Samsung SPH-i300, Samsung SPH-i700)

Again, thanks to all for your work.

Why is this considered so obsolete.
Beyond the unlockable GPS capability, slightly glossier screen (which to me means more glare from the florescent lights above) and thinner size, my friend's 6800 is rather unimpressive in the way of new bells and whistles.

Some of my main reasons too.

Plus-
Mogul: -I hate that stupid Y cable that is needed if you want headphones / audio out.
- Isn't tethering still an issue with that phone?

There is also my refusal to buy or support a product just because it's "newer". I'll stick with what I have until you can show me something that is truly better. There's virtually nothing better about a 6800, when compared to a 6700 running a hot rodded rom.

When I broke my 6700 the Sprint store guy said that he could probably get me a 6800 since they didn't have any more 6700 in stock. I ended up going through ASSurion to get another 6700.
