Of course! :) I understand exactly how that is; I used to host a Froyo ROM for the Archos 5 a couple years ago and it became quite popular, that is until Time Warner found out and became quite unhappy, haha. But I digress, thank you again so much for helping me out!

Hi Tinkerbell - any chance you can post a version of 21916 Apache ROM for TELUS devices? I heard there was a version for it at ppckitchens but since the site was shutdown, I could not find a version for it anywhere else. My bootloader version is 2.02. Thanks!

Yes, I can check into that for you. Give me a bit here. Thanks

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

Relative noob here. I have never flashed anything but a stock OEM Verizon ROM to my Apache, mainly because, a couple of years ago (when I was last on here) just about all the custom ROMs seemed to break one function or another. I'm still with the Apache because I have a lot of accessories for it, and being able to use Active Sync to directly USB sync all my Outlook data between my work computer and phone (without other sodtware) is an essential funtionality for me.

All that being said, I got to browsing around here and found this thread. Looks like this ROM is mature and stable enough that I am ready to give it a try. I have bootloader v1.04 so I downloaded the v1.04 Verizon package from the first page, and extracted it. I'm not quite sure what the next step is at this point. Do I enter bootloader, hook it up via USB and execute one of the application files in the package? Or do I hook it up via USB and execute the EnterBL application without putting it in bootloader first, or what? What about ActiveSync? do I need to disable the USB communications in ActiveSync before hooking up the USB?

Sorry, but like I said, the only flashing I've ever done was the AKU3.3 upgrade a couple of years ago and that was on one of the aforementioned parts phones (AND I used the version phoenix6 posted here on the board - the one that didn't update the bootloader to v 2.0x).

A little guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance...

P.S. And thanks for building and posting new ROMs for such an old device, Tink. People with your talent and dedication simply amaze me!

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

Hey BobC! Thank you for your interest. It is great that some are still using this trusty little device! Yes, you are going to want to put your device into bootloader mode first. To do this, just push power, record, and reset, holding these three buttons until the screen goes dark. Now, disable usb communications in ActiveSync. Next, hook up your Apache to your computer. Now double click on the ROMUpgradeUt.exe in the folder you unzipped. Follow the onscreen instructions. Relax and enjoy.

Thanks for your kind words!

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

Thanks Tink. That is pretty much the steps I expected to have to follow, but I wanted to be sure.

Althought it seems unlikely, IF for some reason I wanted to go back to AKU3.3, that would still be an option, right? As long as I can find the stock ROM package. And I assume the roll-back process would be the same?

Tinkerbell 01-06-2013 01:23 PM

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

Yes, it would be the same. I can't imagine going back though as the stock ROM is almost unusable in today's world. I would recommend finding that stock ROM before you start if you are considering switching back. =]

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

I sent a PM and an email to Phoenix6 asking if he still had the files. There is a link in this post to the files - supposedly hosted here on the ppcgeeks site
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-apache...der-files.html
But the user ID (ppcgeeks) and password (ezupload) that he gives doesn't work to gain access to them. Maybe you know a UID/pw combination that will allow me to access them...

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

I'm a total noob to flashing on WM devices but have knowledge of rooting and flashing Android devices. I've always loved my Apache but never wanted to mod it in this kind of way. The physical keyboard on my Apache has been messed up for awhile and I just ordered a replacement device and now I'm very interested in putting something better on my beloved 6700. Will this ROM have a n improvement in battery life/performance over the complete Verizon stock? Forgive my ignorance in this area as I have been completely focused on Android.

Tinkerbell 02-09-2013 12:15 AM

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

The stock Apache Rom is almost unusable. This Rom will definitely improve the performance. Battery life should be about the same... although admittedly it has been so long since I had used the stock Apache Rom that I may have forgotten. At any rate, it will last all day on one charge if your battery is in good condition. Enjoy!!

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

Wow......I just flashed this ROM a few hours ago and I must say it is VERY sweet! After using the Apache for years on the stock ROM, this breathes a whole new fresh life into my beloved 6700. The UI is somewhat foreign to me and was thinking about putting SPB Shell onto this like I did on my stock HTC 6800. Would installing that shell app be deterimental on battery life? It doesn't seem to affect the 6800. I only use these devices as PDAs, they are in no way, shape or form used as a phone......only light internet use via WiFi.

Maybe it's a user error on my part but the YouTube app does not connect......did they update something and it won't connect? I have verified it is connected to my router by using the IE app.

Thanks so much for your work! :)

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

I would try the HTC Home interface and see if you like that first. If not, go ahead and load up the SPB Shell. The SPB will use up some of your valuable resources though. As to the YouTube app, I will check into that. Thanks for the heads up.

I did actually try the HTC Home interface and it is quite suitable. It's funny that this device out performs much newer devices and with this ROM I have really noticed an improvement with performance and battery life!

I attached the YouTube 2.4.4 cab to this post if anyone wants it :)

Thanks

Would it be possible (even though it sounds foolish) to run the version of IE from WM5 on this ROM and is so, how is it done?

Tinkerbell 03-02-2013 06:18 AM

Humm... maybe. Why would you want to though?

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

Hi Tink:hello2: - Thank you so much for providing the ROM flash link and instructions. You are awesome!

I am having a problem syncing my VX6700 phone to my Windows 7 PC. As you may recall from my earlier post' I have not activated the phone through Verizon yet, but it is charged and connects to WiFi. I aspire to update the Windows Mobile OS from 5.0 to 6.5. My ROM version is 1.05.00 WWE and the bootloader is 1.00. I have down loaded YOUR file, but not unzipped it yet as I am unable to connect the phone and have it recognized by my computer.

I downloaded, and installed Windows Mobile Device Center 64 bit version for Windows7, not Active Sync (don't have XP). When I connect the phone, I get a message that says "Device Driver Software was not successfully installed" Unidentified Device (red X) device unplugged and Microsoft Windows mobile Remote Adapter (red X Device unplugged.

I am assuming that I need to sync to run the OS 5 to 6.5 upgrade. Could the problem be that Win Mob Dev Cent does not recognize Mobile OS-5.

I also downloaded, installed VZ Access Manager for VX6700 wireless, and have attempted to connect through, but that does not connecting either.

"Devices and Printers" shows that PocketPC USB Sync is connected, but I don't see it like I would as a normal USB memory stick.

Sorry for the elementary questions. This is my first time attempting to do this procedure. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong would be much appreciated!

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

Hi! Humm, put your device into bootloader mode and connect to the computer. The wording at the top of your Apache screen should change from serial to USB if your device is communicating with your PC. Let us know.

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

When I put it into bootloader mode and attach the phone, I get an error message that says; USB device not recognized - "the USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it":spin: and the phone still says serial (at the top of the screen).

Any ideas?

Thanks! Pete;-)

Okkay, let me do some research and see what we can come up with. I don't have a Windows 7 machine to experiment with here.

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

Yes, it would be good to know if Guitarman2010 had Windows Mobile Device Center, and/or VZ Access Manager loaded before he tried to connect. I have both loaded. I installed WMDC first and then VZ AM.

Thanks for helping me resolve this issue. I am sure that we will get there.

Re: [10-12-12]Tinkerbell's 21916 Apache Rom

Hi TInker,

I removed VZ Manager and uninstalled/reinstalled Windows Mobile Device Center.

I now see the USB on the cell in bootloader, but I got a driver error and the phone does not connect to WMDC. When I connect the USB I can see the "PocketPC SmartPhone image in "Devices and Printers".

Can I run the program (without damage to OS-5), or do I need to resolve the driver issue first so I can connect to WMDC first?

Thank you!

Tinkerbell 03-07-2013 10:24 PM

If you are seeing USB on your device, you should be good to go. Try following the instructions in the Rom and see if it will flash.
