i just got an iphone 3g upgraded to 4.0 and spirit keeps sayin "device iphone 3g 4.0 is not supported" i downloaded the ipsw files but they are zips and redsn0w isn't finding the ipsw

you cannot use spirit on 4.0, only redsn0w.

the IPSW should not be a .zip file, it should be an IPSW file,

My links are link to IPSW files, fi you right click and hit "copy link location" you will see it's an IPSW file, so download that file and have redsn0w find it.

Lemme know if you run into issues, but this should work fine.

i have one more question. after i get all of these settings and downloads can i get rid of them? I only got an 8gb and i am trying to save some room for all the garbage i plan to download.

Also the carrier still says at&t. does that change when i install my other sim?

All these "settings and downloads" really only tweak some system files a little to allow you root access to the device, the tools are stored on your computer and don't get into your phone. What you want room for is apps, and 8gb should be fine for that.

After the unlock the carrier will say whatever SIM you put into it, whereas before when you put a Tmobile SIM into it it would say "no service"

im hoping we will be able to jailbreak/unlock the 4.0 & 4.0.1 os soon on the 3gs and 3g with a pc running windows. i have alot of people asking me when it may be possible? i see the comex release may be happening soon.

you can jailbreak and unlock the 3G on iOS 4.0 right now, check the first post.

The 3GS release should be out any day.
