Google to close down web store

http://mashable.com/2010/05/14/googl...one-web-store/

Google admitted the online only approach didn't work out like they planned.

Would have been nice to have more carrier adoption of the device, though...I still wish there was a CDMA variant of this phone being released.

Re: Google to close down web store

Just wrote an article about this...http://www.ppcgeeks.com/2010/05/14/g...hanges-coming/

I'm still VERY happy with my Nexus One and don't plan on getting another phone for a while.

I agree, I love my n1 and wouldn't want anything else. Just something about it to me is special, one of a kind type of phone for me...

Where did you hear that? Both Sprint and Verizon have confirmed that they're not bringing it on board. Did I miss something?

ill have to find the story i read the other day. they dropped it due to the way it would have to be sold & serviced through google only. it didn't have anything to do with the evo or incredible.

Re: Google to close down web store

I read a story where they said the main reason Sprint and Verizon decided against it was because they didn't like the fact that people had to buy it through Google. They couldn't get the hands-on experience in the store.

Honestly, I don't know why Google doesn't offer both. They could sell them in retail stores so people could play with them and experience it, but then they could also sell it online.

Look at At&t/Rogers/Telus for example, they don't offer a subsidized option like T-Mobile does. Its not an official At&t phone, its just an unlocked version that works with their bands. So why not continue to sell those versions online? You can buy At&t-compatible Nokia phones online, why make this different?

Even if a carrier doesn't want to subsidize it, they could still have it in the stores so people can get the hands-on experience.
