I tend to think that my smartphone is the most personal device that I own (ok, ok, get the jokes out of the way....deep breath, ready now?)

Anyway, point is that you use it every day and don't switch for some time. While you may be used to a slide-out keyboard today (trust me, I was, so much so that I disabled the onscreen keyboard on my TP2), the frequency at which you use your new device will make the transition easier, and after a little bit of your own customization to make it "yours" it'll be second nature just like your current device..

Switching between operating systems slows me down as well, even stuff I have used before. Using my wife's iPhone is such a departure from my day-to-day activity I have to either sit and think about how to get my task accomplished, or have her do it, even though I am very familiar with how iOS works. Same with Android, if it's not what I use on a daily basis it is not as easy.

That said, the WP7 virtual keyboard is tuned to be one of the best out there, especially for folks that are new to the concept. I was very impressed with it during my brief stint on AT&T.

All I really care about is getting a WP7 phone on Verizon right now so I can get my hands on one, then I'll worry about getting the fancy stuff later. Besides, anything is going to be bigger than my 3.2" Fathom screen and I think WP7 is going to be plenty fast on a 1ghz. My old dog 6.5.3 runs like a top with it so I can imagine WP7 would too.

I am in the exact same situation as you; I use swype on my TP2 a lot trying to transition to a virtual KB, but tapping on the screen as my only means of text input makes me feel anxious for some reason. I've always had a hardware KB on every phone I've purchased. If swype comes to WP7 I think I would be more at ease.
From what I have heard from WP7 users that had the same concerns; the transition is seamless because of the quality of the virtual KB.

Wow... I thought this thread was for people waiting for WP7. If you aren't waiting and enthusiastic about the device why post in this thread? WP7 will not upgrade its internals/hardware and the people waiting for the phones are aware of that. Its been said multiple times... give it a rest. The phone is optimized with what it has in it; if its snappy who cares whats inside?

And what is the big deal with 4g? I understand the speed increase is drastic but its not abundant everywhere yet so who cares? When 4g is everywhere and a phone is released without the ability to utilize it, then people can rant about it. As of right now its not a deal breaker. Did anybody switch to fios internet because its faster than cable? Cable speeds are good enough on computers and 3g is good enough on phones. Period. What do you NEED to download that quickly? Games? Apps? Porn? They will all be there by the time the browser links you to the titties you desperately need to see :disgust:

wow another great post. I was going to say something along the lines if he came back in and posted more idioteces. should've quoted him so he would've gotten a notification about this. it would be very interesting to see his rebuttle to this if its even possible.

i don't want to jack david's thread, but what does non 4g vs. 4g have to do with anything? i'm not going to repeat myself about speed tests and all that, but some of these people show up saying the dumbest things. "this phone sucks" is what one guy said, never gave a reason or what he might need help with with his...oh wait, he doesn't have one. if a person tried it and then said it was too slow, fine. most of these guys read spec sheets and run with it. beside's this thread is about verizon getting wp7, a verizon guy started it and other verizon people have responded.....why brownhornet and the other fandroids decided people wanted to hear about their fandroid systems is beyond me. for every fandroid that screams "no 4g on wp7", i'll counter with "no netflix on android, period".

the keyboard in wp7 is leaps and bounds better then ezinput or anything else available. only thing I miss from ezinput is the ability to press and hold on keys for symbols and numbers and the ability to easily input spanish.
