Screen automatically turning on

Ok so I used to have a mogul and I live in kind of a fringe area, so whenever I would switch from roaming to sprint or vice versa my screen would turn on which would dramatically affect my battery life

Now I have a diamond and hoped it wouldn't do the same, but unfortunately it does

does anyone know of a way to fix it? I litterally get like half of the battery life I should because it turns on by itself all the time
