Re: Warez Vs. Tethering
do u just not get it??? if im saying use the hacks, why would i try to stand against roms... but roms arent stealing a service, there no ROM store to buy from, or liscenses, or plans that provide access to be able to buy create and ditribute your own thats being worked around... that why i think its ok..
for one ive never flashed rom in life except the offical wm6.1 upgrade from sprint on my titan.. i dont know that i feel thats wrong, again, warez is about money, nothing about modding your rom is takin money away from anyone... with tha being said, if ROMing isnt bad though, why does it have to be hidden that you do it from the carrier??? but i am pointing out that were doing something wrong, i mean who honestly, genuinly thinks their not being deceitful in using these methods... we all know were suppose to be paying for this type of pc/laptop interaction with our phones... and even more people are gonna say, "well i dont think im doing anything wrong" when its clearly been pointed out every user was wel aware of the fact the they had the option, whether a price buster or not, to gain this tethering service in this fashion, through the use of additional fees being paid to your cell carrier..

The .inf file that differentiates the modem link from an Active Sync connection over USB is just a driver file for a different function of the phone. The driver is included with the CD in the box. It's not a driver you only get when you subscribe to a PAM plan. The computer doesn't see the phone as a phone when it's in "modem mode" so that why the difference. It wasn't designed to require a different driver so that the carriers could require a special program or plan to tether. |

Re: Warez Vs. Tethering
It has to be hidden from your carrier only for warranty purposes. They will just claim that becuase you are not using thier software you broke your phone yourself.

in the older phones there was most definately a crack. a reg edit had to be done. that's no secret. now i've been told as of last nite, that on the moguls and touch pros ICS works right out of the box. and as i verified twice last nite, sprint doesn't even offer ICS for purshase on certain plans (like the one i'm on) so i've decided to steal it, plain and simple. f- 'em. now that being said. Whether or not ICS works out of the box is irrevelant. the fact of the matter is that there is an additional charge of $15/month for the service. and if ICS works out of the box or someone uses a crack to access it, if the person isn't paying for it then he/she is stealing it. which is the exact purpose of warez. to steal software. and at the end of the day, that's where we are. |

Re: Warez Vs. Tethering
Well Phone As Modem is included in my employee plan, so I guess that makes me ok
Edit: Not to mention when I got my Touch with WM 6.0 tethering was already to go with stock software, although 6.1 software got rid of that. Last edited by sorge; 02-23-2009 at 10:12 AM. |

Re: Warez Vs. Tethering
Dont forget what this arguement is about, whether or not we can DISCUSS stealing said SERVICE (not software). To properly equate discussing and posting ICS hacks to posting warez, one would have to allow all of us to connect to the internet using their 1 internet connection over their phone.
EDIT: I do like the fact that valid points against banning are completely ignored. |

Re: Warez Vs. Tethering
Ok, first Mike is the walkie-talkie cell phone system on Telus and I'm still unsure why that was brought up in the first place, it isn't a data system. Second, ICS is perfectly fine and not warez on Telus effective the 25th, if they can detect tethering as they indicated to me, if I use it without a pre-set plan, I get an outrageous $8/MB fee. By your deffinition if I'm paying for the service it's not warez. WModem did work out of the box, other than installing drivers onto my computer (that came with the phone). I'm pretty sure that WModem and ICS are the same program. Finally, why would you use religion as and example if you don't want it brought up, I'm not going into it, but use a different example if you don't want someone else to talk about it. I get it, you just want to debate people, but I've seen a few really good points that you dismiss without really explaining why. I agree that the exerpt from the Telus' TOS doesn't say anything to give the impression that they even care about tethering, if they did it would have been mentioned directly... You are not allowed to share the data connection with any other unit... Although it is written in lawyer, us dummies have to be able to understand it too.
