Alltel to Verizon

I've been looking for a good backup phone and my buddy's got an LG Glimmer that was used on Alltel and I was wondering if I could activate it on Verizon. It's only a matter of time something happens to my HTC VX6900 and I would like to be ready. Sorry if this is off topic but I'm sure someone here will have the answer. Thank you in advance.
